205 Gti6 Flatspot

Recommended Posts

Car has a slight "flat Spot" upto about 1500 rpm when pulling away, normally more noticeable when driving the thing normally ,If you pull away and plant it the flat spots not so noticeable...?,Is this a trait of the Gti6 engine,My friends 205 Gti 6 has the same characteristic also and his is of identical spec to mine.

if its not a trait of the engine, low rpm high load flat spots and hesitation may be electrical interference from knackered HT leads. I would say dizzy and rotor too but the gti-6 usually has coil packs. Try cleaning up the leads of oil and grease first. If the leads are old they may have broken down, check for arcing / sparking at night in the engine bay then replace with a good quality OEM set.

the XU "flat spot" is between 3 and 4k, so I'd suggest as Kyepan did, clean it all up, check all earths.

could be a dirty MAP sensor.

You can tell posts that are plainly written with no experience a mile off on this forum..... it does annoy me.

Anyway, I have noticed this flat spot you talk about, almost as if there is a delay in throttle response off idle.... It may just be a trait o this engine and its management. My black one is like it, my ex has a 306 gti6 and I seem to remember that being like it to.

Im sure it is just a delay in initial throttle response unless the flat spot you are describing is worse.

Thanks for the educated answer Maxi !,I guessed it may be a characteristic of this particular engines management,We are soon to be fitting emerald management to my mates car and then getting it rolling roaded, if its sucessfull then its probably the route I will also go down .

The uneducated answers tickle my dry sense of humour !,Ive been in the Motortrade since I was 16 and Im now 36 and I think its fair to say that nobody could ever know it all but every day I come across comments that make me laugh !

Cheers

Intresting as My GTi6 doesn't have this and it's run on cheapo fuel and it's a phase1 so in theory should have the fault's,

But I remeber the (again the early ones) 2L 406's having a recall for something like this many years ago

Hi Whizzer, I run a similar spec to you.

Is it a flat spot in power or a slight delay in the delivey of drive?

Since having my Quaife ATB diff fitted there is a slight delay to get going from a start, like holding the handbrake on and then suddenly releasing it.

I have assumed it is the energy taken up to overpower the transmission/diff.

Not a GTI-6 lump, or indeed even a Peugeot, but ive got an Alfa which runs pretty much the same management as the '6 that also has the flat spot. Mine has been fault coded etc and nothing came up, its just a quirk of the management. Yours sounds the same sort of problem.

Yes its like somebody suddenly hits a switch or like the handbrakes just being released and it occurs at around 1500rpm,Mine has a quaife in it too but it suffered from the same problem before I fitted the quaife.

Cheers

I have not experienced this on any of the gti6's I have driven, Maybe a sensor that is not quite right causes this?

I've had this problem this problem on my 205gti6 too, but not anymore.

I put it down to engine management, as i thought it would have trouble switching from stationary mode to rolling.

Due to many changes on my car round that time, i can't pinpoint the solution, sorry. Mostly i think it changed when i fixed the dials properly.

Sounds like the engine characturistics then as mine does it too, with and without a Quaiffe diff.

I'm glad this topic popped up as I've been wondering about this for a while but not got round to researching it as I only ever drive it on track where you never notice it.
