About To Start 206 Gti 180 Conversion

Recommended Posts

oonip

I have been using this forum for a couple years now with general info / buying spares etc.

I am about to start a 206 GTI 180 conversion on my 205 1.9 as the engine is just starting to show signs of age.

My current planned work is:

1. Re locate battery into boot (I know its probably not essential but i like the idea of having the extra free space in the engine bay).

2. Move brake servo to passenger side using a 106 set-up. I am hoping this will be fairly straight forward (has anybody had any experiences?)

3. I am also currently planning to keep the 206 gearbox. Other than the hydraulic clutch I THINK this will work, does anybody know any different? will the 205 drive shafts fit? Hoping to use the 309 slave cylinder set up.. (early stages of planning)

Other than the above points I cannot see any huge problems, am I being naive?

Any help and opinions on the above is welcome!

Thanks,

Nick

If the hydrailic release lever is like the TU-BE4 boxes then you can get a cable type arm from peugeot/citroen plus a cable stop, saves messing abut with custom conversion bits, a Berlingo cable should fit the BE pedal box IIRC.

Re- servo relocation, never seen an EW in a 205 shell up close, so not sure if the top of the engine sits further forward than the XU (I know they sit at 15 inseaead of 30 degrees), if so I wouldnt think clearance would be an issue like it is with the 16V XU?

Thanks for that, i do like the idea of just sticking an OE cable arm in - can anybody confirm if the TU-BE4 cable arm will fit?

Very good point on the 15 degrees instead of 30degrees, maybe i will get the engine into the engine bay and size things up for myself.

One thing i know will be a pain is the wiring, i am currently pretending the engine has no wiring loom, i just hope i can get it to run with the standard ECU! No doubt the CAN will be a pain in the ass!

Awesome stuff... Looking forward to follow this project ;) I would be building one if I wasnt obsessed by getting this supercharger build to work properly!

Gti 180 Converted 205 gti! sorrento green

Hi and welcome to my auction for my beloved 205 gti 180!.

This may well be the best 205 conversion ever' date=' done by a garage called Repairgeot who specialise in this

sort of thing so it has been done properly. she runs perfectly and is amazingly fast! she is running 195 Bhp.

She will blow away all other mi16 205's etc, and the best bit is she is very reliable as it is a new engine and

almost everything else has been replaced/uprated.

She has never let me down and is also very echinomical aswell!, driven sensibly she will get 300-350 miles

to a tank (approx £45)

This is a very reluctant sale as she is my pride and joy but i've just bought my 1st house and need the

money to do it up!

She started life as a 205 1.9 gentry (the automatic version of the 205 gti) this is the best way to get a good

shell as it had not been thrashed and battered! and is still down as this on the log book.

Right here goes, this is the list of things that have been done, it isnt just a big engine, but everything else

aswell!

l

206 gti 180 engine and gearbox with new clutch (£1200)

l

omex 710 series engine management (£900)

Full map at Noble Motorsport (£600)

l

Gti6 brake calipers with Fiat coupe brake servo and AP Racing fluid pots (£100)

l

Drilled and grooved front discs with green stuff pads (£160)

l

Costom made drive shafts (will never snap!) (£100)

l

Updated engine mount set

l

309 gti front antiroll bar (£40)

l

All round AVO Coilover suspension kit (£500)

l

K&N Air filter (£50)

l

Fse power boost valve with gauge (£90)

l

Oil cooler and temperature sensing sandwich plate (£80)

l

Front strut brace (£50)

l

Quaife Limited Slip Automatic Torque Biased Differential Unit with certificate for lifetime warranty!!!(£580)

l

Uprated strut top mounts (£30)

l

Battery relocated to boot

l

Fuel swirl pot fitted but not plumed in

l

Fully Reconditioned 309 rear axle (£160)

l

Partner van rear torsion bars (£60)

l

Costom exhaust (£150)

l

Full lether retrim (£350)

Solid rear axle mount kit (£90)

l

Goodridge braded hose set (£80)

l

New lower arms (£130)

l

New anti roll bar links (£30)

l

New track rod ends (£25)

l

Clifford concept 650 alarm/immobiliser with auto up windows (£700)

l

Exhaust heat wrap (£40)

l Oil pressure, oil temperature and coolant temperature gauges (not yet fitted) (£100)

l Front and rear genuine peugeot 205 gti mud guards still in packaging (not yet fitted)

l The standard car (£800)

And im sure there is more that i've forgot but as you can see she has had a lot of money spent and thats not

including labour charges!

The omex ecu is also a fantastic bit of kit, it will run any turbo conversion, supercharger, NOS, throttle bodies

etc if required at a later date, it has i thick binder with it telling you everything it can do, believe me its almost

anything!

I do have some reciepts but not many as i have misplaced them moving house but i will try and find as many

as possible, i do have the reciept and certificate for quaife diff and for the alarm which is also still under

warranty, i also have the dyno sheet from noble stating the power but i need to find this aswell.

I estimate if you went to a garage and had something like this built it would cost you approx £11000!!!!!

The bodywork is also in fantastic contition with the only slight damage to front bumber and the lower part of

the n/s wing (see photos) which you cannot even see unless you know its there, and when the mud guards

have beed fitted you shouldnt notice it at all!

The rear wiper and motor has been removed and the rear seats have been removed aswell but will be

supplied with the car (they have never been sat on since the retrim!)

Obviously it does have the odd little stone chip and scratch etc and it has a litthe chip which has started to

crack(only about 1cm big) in the front windscreen but believe me. you will not see a 205 in better condition!

The only other things are the standard rev counter, oil pressure and oil temp gauges do not work but there is

no need to get them wired up because i have the other gauges with the car, they just need fitting and i have

a fitting plate which goes where the sterio should be.

The front tyres are boarderline so will need replacing soon and the rear ones will also need replacing soon

aswell.

The alloys are in good condition with just the usual slight scuffs, etc.

She drives lovely and gets the power down very well with the quaife diff, i raced a 205 mi16 running the

same power and left it standing because of the way she gets the power down and the torque she has.

Heres a quick example of the cars i have beat, civic type r's (easily) integra type r's, porsches, m3's,

skylines, scoobies etc etc.

I raced a new Bmw m3 from standing and got in front, he didnt come past until i hit the limiter at 140mph!

And nothing can keep up around the corners either.

Trust me this car is amazing and i will be sad to see her go but i just need the money, you will not be

dissapointed!

I am unsure of exact time mot runs out but im sure its near the end of september, as soon is i dig out mot i

will add exact day.

I am sure i will have forgotten some information as it has had that much done to it, if i remember anything i

will add it straight away.

I am selling with NO RESERVE.

Please, no silly offers as i know what this car is worth and im sure you do too, anyone with less than 10

feedback please contact me before bidding.

If you are winning bidder, please contact me a.s.a.p after auction ends, thanks.

You are more than welcome to view or if you have any questions, just contact me, Dan on 07885982832 or

through ebay, thanks for looking and happy bidding.

this sounds like a very interesting conversion, should be less weight slung over the front wheels than the typical GTi6 option too, if im right in thinking they are an alloy block arent they?

Good luck with it, ill be interested to see how it goes :)

Its quite a light engine all in, I know Sandy has built at least one and researched them quite extensively recently, though you may not hear from him for a while as he's flat out with race car engine builds and the like!

The bottom end is constructed like the TU, all the mains are cast into a complete ladder, water pump in a housing bolted to the rear of the engine, though the liners are not removable they can be bored out.

The head is closely related to the later XU 16v engines.

It's a negative on the Berlingo clutch cable - Been there tried that. It's far too long to work reliably.
