Brake Compensator Leak

Recommended Posts

Clapton_Is_God

Hello All,

I've just got my 1.9 GTI back on the road after an overhaul and I've noticed a leak from one of the rear brake compensating valves. The brake lines are new and were definitely leak free when fitted (passed an MOT), I've checked them and they're tight into the valve.

Is it possible for the compensator itself to go bad and leak? My assumption was that if they were faulty it would be internally and would just give a bad breaking effort, not leak.

The last thing I want to do is have to remake those brake lines (behind the fuel tank) but I'm at a loss to understand why it's leaking when it didn't initially. I should add that the compensators are roughly 10-15 years old and haven't been used in over 8 years.

Any help would be appreciated!

entirely possible I guess as it is two halves screwed together.

Thank you for the quick reply!

I can't see a join so I assume it's the internal piece that screws into the outer casing that you're referring to?

Any ideas where to get them or the difference between them? Peugeot no longer supply them and are not able to tell me which one I need.
