Driving Lamps Not Working

Recommended Posts

pslynam

I am currently refitting the bumpers to my phase 1 GTi and the driving lights will not work. The bulbs are fine as they work when connect direct to the battery. With the lamps removed I have 12v across the two lamp terminals but when I connect the lamp I get 0v across the terminals. Does this point to a faulty relay? Is the relay located on the extreme left of the fuseboard in the glovebox? Thanks

typically this will be corroded terminals in the very vulnerable unsealed yellow connectors, I had this very problem nearly ten years ago and chopped them out back to fresh wire and fitted some superseal connectors, not had any problems since.

I thought initially the yellow connectors were at fault but I am getting voltage at the two terminals that connect directly to the driving lamp itself so would assume the yellow connectors are ok? Its only when I connect up the live to the lamp bulb and the ground to the lamp housing that the voltage drops to 0v as though the relay can't stay closed when the load is applied to the circuit?

Run wire from ground side of lamp to negative battery terminal-that would prove your return

I have 12v from ground side of lamp to positive battery terminal so ground feed seems ok at the lamp
