Phase 1 Rear Light To Phase 2 Light Conversion

Recommended Posts

Hi

I've bought some rear light units to put on my 89 phase 1.5 car

Is it fairly straight forward enough? I have access to a ramp and workshop but just want some pointers on what I need to gather to do the job and whether there's any handy tips etc...

Thanks for looking

The lights themselves are physically very easy to swap - just one nut on the back of each, plus the reversing light that's held on with a couple of clips.

The wiring isn't too difficult if you're electrically minded, but certainly not plug and play - either swap the complete front-back loom with a Phase 2 car or adapt the wiring by cutting and splicing in the Phase 2 rear light wiring. I think there's a guide floating around written by Pug_ham / Pugtorque, or easily enough worked out with a Haynes manual and a multimeter.

If you don't already have it, you'll also need the section of wiring that runs behind the bumper as that has the reverse light wiring on a Phase 2.
