Pug Racing 205Gti6 Downpipe Dims

Hi, I spoke to Miles during the week and he had just sold the last and is waiting on new stock.

Does anyone have one off the car that they can give me the following X and Y dimensions please?

I'm trying to fathom if it would be a better fit and long enough to marry up with what I have at the moment.

I also spoke to a local exhaust builder and he can sort me out with a DP but he only does 2" and 2.5" pipe, Would both these sizes be detrimental?

Just looking at my options ATM

Cheers

Hi, I don't think so. It's the dims from Pugracings 205GTI6 conversion downpipe I'm after.

I think Miles is expecting some this week, so hopefully he'll be able to clarify.

Thanks anyway ????

s16 manifold is about 4" shorter.

I've got one. I'll stick it a big square tomorrow and get some accurate measurements.

22" long

From where?

Here is mine, 195 x 325mm as per your sketch. I think mine started life as something else, maybe an XU10J4, thus I added the extra lambda bung in the correct position.

Thanks Peter, but I think Miles' are different now. I spoke to him and the "X" dimension is 22", which i'm pretty sure will be too short for me, I've still to check, hopefully tonight.

I'm gonna measure up what I need and he'll get his exhaust man to keep a bit of length on it for me so I can marry it up with what I've got.

Thanks for looking anyway for me.

I found an old pic of what I have sat compared to a standard 205 DP, as you can see my GTI6 DP is quite long and had more joints than Bob Marley.

Surely the angle is what's important?

Yeah the angle is important to get it through the bulkhead/subframe area without hitting anything, but the depth/length of this angled part (Y) is also important so that when it goes horizontal it will clear the gearstick stuff/heatshield. Mines sits a smidgen high. I also want the new one to be long enough so that it will marry up with my mid section.

If that makes sense.

I'm wanting something that will simply bolt on without having to get a welder involved.

See how close it is? I'm hoping a new downpipe will drop it and shift it over a little, as iirc my current DP has a slight kick at the bend and it throws the rest of my exhaust out slightly, which results in me eventually loosing rubbers.

you need the wiggle in the pipe just after the bottom of the gearstick, the downpipe comes in a straight line down off the engine but closer to one side, the centre silencer sits central.

It's not just a case of that WP, if I do that it pulls the exhaust off the middle section hanger. (it might not actually be on the hanger in the pic)

I'm pretty sure the problem is my DP, the section someone has welded in after the cast looking section on my DP has been welded a couple of degrees out, and the inaccuracy is amplified the further you go along the length of the DP. I also think my DP (that came with an engine) was made for a car that had an extended fork on the lower torque bush/engine mount, as it's not as nice a square/parallel fit up there as it could be iirc.

Miles

Thats way to close, the system should either have the bend as the 205 D/P above or be made giving a larger gap

Miles, if I bought a standard Ph2 middle section, can you do the downpipe to marry on to it without any other work needed?
