[car_upgrade] Black Supercharged 205 Gti 5

Recommended Posts

Rolando

So last april i bought this 205 1.6 gti for very little money because it had HG failure and no tax or MOT with the intention of fitting a 306 gti 6 engine. it was only 50miles away but getting it back was a right pain. and it didnt help with nosey people phoning the police! :)

next i found this gti 6 for £400 with a good engine but had high miles, i was over the moon. i was thinking about selling it and buying another engine which had low mile but i knew this one was running and ok so in the end i decided to break it which was a good idea. i made £600+ back and i scrapped the shell. so got a free engine and £200.

all that money went back into the car thought. getting the loom done, 309 running gear with PAS rack, new cambelt, water pump etc

10032009174.jpg

to be quite fair i rushed it last summer fitting the engine as i wanted to get it on the road asap but as little things got in the way and annoyed me, motivation soon dried up and so did the money.

i didnt get many pictures as i was fitting the engine as i was rushing like mad but heres one with the engine in. not alot to show really.

10042009227.jpg

and heres how she sat towards the end of the summer

16062009008.jpg

with all the money gone i tried selling her but had no luck so decided i would store her away till i decided what i wanted to do. in october i started a new job earning stupid money so straight away i had fresh funds to spend on her. one of the reasons i gave up hope was because i found a huge rust patch on the sill and that was the last straw. so now i had fresh money, i had fresh motivation so i jacked her right up and decided i would tackle the whole of the rear. i dropped the axle and tank so i could do the welding and paint the underneath and fit new brake lines.

i also decided i would rebuild the axle and change to disc's. the main reason being i found out i had a base model axle on :D heres the only pic i have before i fitted it to the car :P

also fitted BakerBM solid mounts as well and had loads of bits powder coated. thats quite addictive ;) ended up getting bits done that i shouldnt have.

i will take more pictures of the back when its all finished.

now that rear was coming together i turned my attention to the engine. i was already impressed with how quick it was but like all of us that power wasnt enough. i was considering going down the TB's and cams but then i came across Garrys supercharged 205 and the idea grew on me straight away. i saw the kit forsale on the 306 gti 6 forum and put a deposit down on it straight away. the chap i bought it off was a top bloke as i had problems with my bank so couldnt get the rest of the money to him as soon as i wanted to but he didnt mind waiting which i appreciated.

and this is what i got :D

IMGP1642.jpg

reading from Garry's thread i already knew i would have problems with the inlet manifold being too long so as soon as it arrived i got onto rich w to get it made shorter. luckly rich had one already which he kindly straight swapped with me :D so less pennys to spend there which was brilliant

up to now i havent really done much apart from save save save but last monday i stripped the body work down i sent her in for spraying so she left me looking like this

12042010136.jpg

12042010137.jpg

shes only going in for a quick spray to look pretty for the summer as i plan to fit a non sunroof roof in the winter

and i also paid for my charger and ecu, so hopefully that wont be too long :D so now its just a waiting game till everything turns up

i havent decided about an intercooler yet but was more of thinking about going down the chargecooler route. whats peoples opinions on this?

anyways hopefully there will be lots more pictures to come with in the next few weeks B)

Nice project, looking forward to following it :)

What sort of power will it be putting out when finished mate? would there be enough room in the bay for all the chargecooler gubbins?

Its good to see another lynx charger kit going into a 205. So far I think thats 4 kits in total, 3 low boost (me, Garry, you) and one high boost in the making(easypug). Still quite a rare convertion though.

yeh hopefully will be going high boost end of the year, will have the pistons in a few weeks.

did you sort your cooling issues with your intercooler? did you just drill holes in your bumoer? i liked how yours looked standard on the outside

You probably are best off just lowering it.

I recon if you get a silicon 45deg bend like I did you will be OK.

You may have different engine mounts on yours which would equate to the different height/ angle. My rad isn't lowered.

PS put some rubber mounts on your rad to stop an vibration :)

Is there any chance to use the standard radiator and lower it to clear the Charger outlet?

not really, you'd have to lower it loads. jamie with the other charged 205 moved his forward but with the way i want to run my pipe work i cant :(

Are you sure a 45deg silicon hose will not clear? I cut mine down quite a bit so the elbow was right next to the charger outlet, then put an alloy pipe into it so the alloy pipe and the charger outlet are pretty much touching. You don't want any unsupported silicon hose otherwise it collapses under vacum.

yeh i'm going to try what you've suggested but someone on the 306 forum said that your charger is the old style compared to mine??? and therefor your outlet is slightly higher than mine? dont know how true that is though? i thought the looked the same near enough?

I know how you feel mate, I was the same when I was doing mine. I took a bit of time away from it and then came back at it with a clear head.

It'll be worth it in the end

Any chance of expanding on the problems you guys faced/are facing, as am contemplating taking this route myself.

Good luck with getting re-motivated and getting this car back on the road.

I think the real problem is that you need to get a lot of items to fit in not a very big space.

agreed and no matter what it wont ever be cheap and trying to cut corners to save money like i have has only cost more in the long run :)

time for an update. i lost complete interest in this over summer, hard to believe as some of you may say but i wanted her on the road for the first of june which soon flew by and then so did summer so i gave up.

to get myself back into it i decided to ditch the charge cooler idea as this was what was causing me so many head aches of how and where to mount eveything so i searched ebay and various other sites to find a decent size intercooler for a few weeks then i found this universal forge intercooler. wasnt cheap either!!! after a week of planning and marking out how i was going to mount everything this is what i came up with

12112010182.jpg

12112010180.jpg

i know the charger oil cooler isnt in the best place but as i was struggling with room, this seem like the only place to put it.

while i was on a spending spree i managed to find me some brand new Toyo R888 so then i decided to get my OZ Supperleggeras powder coated at the same time. i'm not sure on the colour yet and still feel i should have gone for black but hopefully i'll grow to like the colour.

11102010167.jpg

17102010171.jpg

17102010172.jpg

i'm quite shocked at how much wider they are over a standard 1.9 gti wheel!!!

standard

17102010178.jpg

Supperleggera

17102010175.jpg

hopefully will be running this week :) so i cant wait! then i can sort out finishing the rear and raise her a little but at long last i can slowly see the end :D
