You can see the clear indentations on the outer bearing surface where the bearing has started to fail and has "dug into" the shaft.

309, just the crossmember and torsion bars, 306, fair bit of fabrication and wider arches.

Also this weekend I was busy picking up quite a few parts.

I got:

30-40mm Koni lowering springs

Adjustable damping Koni dampers

Door cards + handles + door pockets

Plain side badges (going to get some 2.0T sticker made up for the top badge)

Full set of 1.6 Gti badges

A lot of interior plastics that I was missing.

Red door strips both sides.

Two red doors.

Steering column with ignition barrel (as some twit took a grinder to the one in the car!)

Red centre console x2 complete

Bright red Carpet for Ginge191

Powerflex front wishbone bushes,

Probably missed a lot but my parts list is shrinking now just need to get the welder on the weekend and a rear beam or tube.

Last night we got some more done.....removed the push button start and fitted a new steering column (with barrel!) as the old one had been cut out. Also had to work out what wires went where to give power to the barrel as the previous owner had chopped them up to install the switch and push button.

Hopefully 'NFS' took some pics :P

Spent friday night and the small hours of saturday morning with Haz911, Managed to get both suspension struts off and one hub, the drivers side drive shaft doesnt appear to want to come out of the gearbox for some reason. im planning to replace the track rod end, tie rods and lower arms anyway and have also bought some Koni adjustable dampers with lowering springs so once i have the suspension parts it will be built back up with all new parts.

i made a start at cutting out the rot on the drivers floor well, not something i am fond of doing but had to be done,

IMG_1296.jpg

IMG_1295.jpg

IMG_1294.jpg

also started cutting out some of the rot from the drivers wheel arch area. not the best picture im sorry will get a better one soon

IMG_1291.jpg

the passenger side was in good condition so just a clean up and 1 coat of underseal. another to follow

IMG_1292.jpg

removed more of the front end and found the handy work of some retard on the boost pipe.

IMG_1289.jpg

replaced the steering column as the twit before had attacked it with a grinder,

IMG_1300.jpg

new one all fitted and working great

IMG_1301.jpg

Then found a really good deal that could not be missed and ended up with this 165amp mig welder real boys toy.

welder.jpg

also took delivery of these bumper bracket today, am chuffed with them.

photo-4.jpg

anyway need to find somewhere to get some welding gas from and start filling up the holes.

good use of the wheels, keeping the back down lol

IMG_1298.jpg

also a sneaky peak with the mess we are working in atm, really needs a tidy up, i have taken some of the interior parts home to safe keeping.

IMG_1299.jpg

Also it is just a case of drilling out the spot welds to take the front headlight panel off? and has anyway got a guide? thanks

Hi, it’s been a long time since I last properly updated this thread, first of all I have book a spray booth for the last week of march, I was originally planning on spraying it in my unit which I can do and have done many cars in but my compressor is on the blink at the moment so a friend of mine said I can use his if I build him a website for his new bodyshop. Result!

So now I have a target I have to be cracking on as all the prep work needs to be finished in order for the car to be painted in the booth as I won’t have the time to do it there, so from now and till march that’s what I will be concentrating on,

I have finished the welding now. It turned out all I needed to weld was a patch at the driver headlight, two patches on the driver floor, two patches on the boot floor and the two rear bumper mounts. Although the welding doesn’t look pretty it has good penetration and I was using a new (to me) welder which was a hell of a lot more powerful than I have used before so it was hard to keep the heat down and blowing through, just means I will need to spend more time tidying it all up.

I also have another rear beam, was finding it hard to get a beam with disc’s for a good price, so I bought a beam with drums and as I have a disc beam in bits I will transfer the setup over. So for the beam rebuild has anyone used these people?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/120976019232?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649

and also does anyone have a guide for removing the Ariel.

Removed the Sun Roof, let’s just say there was only a few bolts! lol

IMG_1466_zps17080b65.jpg

Removed the front headlight panel as it was rusted beyond repair.

IMG_1465_zpseaf48656.jpg

Previous owners attempt to convert PH1 lights to PH2, even though he was hiding the fact the car is a limited edition.

IMG_1462_zpsfb3354cc.jpg

Now for the welding

IMG_1458_zps2c1a49d5.jpg

IMG_1456_zpsd206920d.jpg

Also picked up some plastic parts from a generous person clearing out his garage.

IMG_1467_zps47f1a0a9.jpg

Picked these up as I first thought it was a PH2 but then realised it was a LTE so these are for sale or swap for PH1 lenses.

Made some progess lastnight but no pics unfortunatly, i got the rear beam on last night and converted it from drums to discs, its all on and connected up.and even tested it, and because the car is empty it is sitting very high lol.

fitted up the front suspension and everything is connected exept the track rods as i need to get new ones.

i have also made up new brake lines all round to replace the standard ones, i havent bled the system yet so im hoping i wont get any leaks :o

my next missing is to prep the whole car, inside and out, for the respray at the end of march, i will be spraying the door shuts and interior in my unit but will spray the car outside in the booth. keep tuned for prep pictures

Hi Guys not updated this much, however I have been working on the car in the
meantime, not many pictures for this update but will get some soon,

the car is about 60% prepped, my target was to get it sprayed and done on
the Easter holidays, but my GF has been laid of work so expenditure is at a minimum
atm, anyway still cracking on with what i can.

my last update was that I made break lines for the car, well I dint make
them my mate did and every single one leaked lol, then I did some research and
found the 205 need domed tips on the lines rather than just flared. Anyway I didn’t
trust my mate to do it again so I done them and after a mission to sort
something out at the MC end as it was too tight for a spanner to get in there
the brakes were bleed and working great no leaks!!!!

Also put on some brand new drop links.

Finally turned my attention to getting the engine running good and tiding it
up, which I did now runs good, so the car now drives and stops and bounces
great.

Now my attention was turned to the body work, I have replaced the rotten
front headline panel with a fresh pattern part which I'm actually impressed
with the quality it fitted perfect, then I started prepping the rear quarter
which one is fully prepped, primed and flatted, the other side I needed to way
for some tiger seal to dry before I can prime it which can be done as soon as
it dry, the underside of the boot has been painted, and the other side has been
prepped.

My attention was then brought to the bonnet which I was dreading because
there was some rust patches on, so I started to sand it down, to find that it’s
been painted for and a s*it job at that, so rather than kill my compressors I popped
to the paint shop and got some stripper, I bought a litre at first as I thought
that would be enough, but no was it hell, the last respray had a really thick
coat of primer on, so 2 litres later its back to bare metal, ah fresh metal.

Currently we are just cracking on with the prepping which is always more
than is expected or there something that needs attention after you think you
have finished, lol will update soon with pictures.
