weldings done just a few minor bits to tidy up flapping welds etc. as for the arches they are all finished now all in primer.

the engine bay has had a little work ,good old clean down and degrease. i then keyed it all and gave it a coat of barcoat to be 100% sure i get no paint reactions.

this stuff is magic for engine bays ! that was then followed up with a good coat of 2k primer

made a minor modification in the engine bay i have given the front chassis legs a coat of stonechip, as only the arch side of these are done factory standard, the underside and bay side chip and corrode as they have no protection.

ok so i started up again with a few bits and bats the other day. I have glossed the entire underside of the car, this will give it more protection, ease of cleaning and better moisture run off. I have also painted the inside to a finish too. Many people wouldnt bother to do either of these two things as 1: you dont see the underside of a car and 2: the only bare metal part you see inside is the boot pan. But if a job is worth doing its worth doing properly !

After this i set about the front end set up. I sent the front subframe and battery tray/gearbox mount to be sandblasted which were then painted up along with the arb and bottom arms.

When thinking about what to do with the suspension i milled over the options for a long time. Standard or uprated ? I went for a compromise, i have ordered new strut bearings, poly bush kit, arb drop links and standard replacement bilstein struts with standard height springs and sandblasted and BZP top mounts. I want this car to feel and drive like it should thats got the basics sorted i just need to source a steering rack.

As for the rear end im treating it to a recon axle which will be a mixture of galv and bzp parts then painted for extra corrosion protection. And not forgetting obviously new seals bearings and mounts.

So thats where i am up to now. Pics will follow soon.

I don't faff about I need to get on with it I have 5 205s all waiting for work to be done

just to add im replacing all bolts with high quality stainless throughout this entire build inside and out. im restoring it to last, not to look good for a year or so before deteriorating.

Looks good what you've done so far, but just to check - you're not replacing any load bearing or high-tensile bolts with stainless, are you? Stainless aren't suitable for those applications and are liable to fail.

(apologies if I'm teaching you to suck eggs, but some people aren't aware of the unsuitablity of stainless fasteners!)

no fair point and a point well made ! I should have stated that im upgrading all load bearing bolts from 8.8 to high tensile 10.9 steel not stainless. All fixture and fitting bolts and nuts are stainless.

Its allways when I see one getting restored in red I start to think I should leave my dimma red oh the decision

my personal opinion is that gtis look best in red nice and vibrant iconic colour yet not harsh on the eye like bright green or yellow. Not only that but they are getting less and less due to people after the more sought after miami blue and sorrento green models. The majority of red ones have been neglected or turned into track cars. More pics to follow soon.

I know what your saying just not sure if best suited to the dimma kit but my car started from the factory red so still swaying to leave that way.
