One of our friends has the 405 mi version which he uses everyday for the last year

Everyday?! You'll need to change more than just the map to run that all the time, and your neighbours will love you revving it with no load to warm it up before you drive it. Do you do more than say 4k a year?

Edit, slooooow

What does the inside of your mates look like by now? Probably not too hot? Or has he only done a couple of thousand miles in the last year?

Not fussed about neighbours to be honest as i have enough noisy cars as it is and im outside all the time. I will do more than 4k a year yes.

I dont know what you mean about my mates? but he drives it everywhere, track aswell, he has group n box which only go's up to 120mph

What ever happens will be fine as i work 1mile away so ride my bike anyways and will have one hell of a car for the weekends

If it's just a weekend car that's not so bad at all, when I said about the neighbours really with an engine like that you should warm it up before you start loading it up, which means revving in neutral which means noise!

surely these two posts are diametrically opposed? the btcc spec engines aren't exactly road tractable, or have you been swallowing some 306owners forum 'bttcc' bullsh*t?

We will just have to wait and see then wont we?

Longmans have said it will be fine on the road and i have seen others on the road so what the f*** has it got to do with the 306 forum?

nice as it is, I cant see how it can be "mapped" for road use, unless you use different cams.

an engine in a particular state of tune will need the same amount of fuel and spark regardless of what its being used for!!

hence why resistor mods do sod all!!!!

Should be a nice build and go very well indeed,

PS, I know what the crank is :)

Slight off topic is why people go on about BTCC as it's all down to rules and Reg's, Much better & Powerfull engine's can be built outside of the BTCC spec and Rev upto 10k no problems, I say no problems but allot of maintenance

its a nice 'off-the-shelf' option at Longmans though so its easy to buy. Though i'd seriously talk rebuilds with Longman as I was offered a touring car camshaft set and turned it down due to the regular maintenance needed with the head.

I'm sure it will be a cracker though:D

Last time I spoke with Richard about BTCC engines/Race Engines vs. clubman engines that can be driven on the road the difference was camshaft and where the injectors are placed. I understood that to get 275bhp such as those in the cox's cars the injectors had to be placed infront of the trumpets, thus making them not applicable for the road as fuel would piss on the tarmac... but with injectos placed midway down the inlet manifold and 'rally' cams, 240-250bhp is the marker. Same head design though. The difference is in the cams and placement of the injectors and mapping to allow for this difference. This was my understanding anyway.

I have spoken about all these factors and i am happy with the rebuild costs ect

James lumley has a similar engine and gets 274bhp with the injectors in the manifold i think so we will have to see?

big difference is that james uses his for rallying and it has new shells every other rally
