I cant wait to see the anthracite trim, I think its going to be a lovely contrast with the late shade of miami blue.

A bit more has happened, we have had a few issues with reactions due to the plastics obviosuly being treated with dressings etc to make them look there best and this had an effect on the way the plastic primer was adhering or not in my case.

Finally they were ready for paint-

what i came to work and found-

Very pleased with the outcome, just hoping they suite the car, heres a finish before they have been polished etc-

Just got to start fitting it back up now.

They look spot on in my opinion. Colour coded trim always makes polishing so much easier too.....

I really wana see what the anthracite trims look like against the miami, I'm getting my gti sprayed the same colour and was thinking about spraying just the red inserts to some shade of grey, maybe lighter than anthracite so it stands out more in the black trim!

Be nice to see complete pic of car but whole thread great, enjoyed your 205 journey. So addictive these pugs, got a really tidy modified 1.9 and a 1.9 convertible. I'm just bidding on another to make totally original car then pamper it, then! I want to do a silly pug, turbo or hot 16v haven't decided yet, all I know is I'll keep them all. Well done with yours looks really good.

Decided to pull my finger out, the car was at work so basically when I had finished all the jobs at work I just couldn't be arsed to start on my own, all the parts are colour coded (anthracite),the only bits I have to refit are the rear arches and the back bumper, when I looked over the rear end etc I thought this could do with a good tidy up so left these off.

I put the old girl on the back of the truck and brought it home this afternoon, the car really needed a good wash and if I was going to make the underside all fresh I thought I may as well get the pressure washer on it and remove all the grime, good base to start.

To start with, looking little a car wreck.

Now this tool is a real god send, it gets the car high enough in the air to do most things and making pressure washing the underside off a doddle

Up she goes, I have to say my arse still twitches a little with this

What I was greeted with under side, it's not that bad to be fair, mainly dirt and surface rust but where the floor pan meets the back panel it's a little crusty under Neath, thought it was best I sort it now whilst I don't have to weld in new metal. Coated the floor in a nice thick layer of tfr, you have to watch out when the wind changes jeez.

What it looked like with a round of a hot pressure washer, not that much grime can hang on, quite a change, looks loads cleaner in the flesh.

The tfr Woking it's magic, the actual exhaust system was fizzing up, this stuff is potent.

A few of the clean pictures. Not too bad

Decided to wash off the engine bay and add some aerospace 303 (basically it brightens up all the plastics) brilliant stuff. The bay really is the nicest part of the car at the minute, if I can get the rest of the car to look like that I will be well chuffed.

Gave the body work a good going over, a little upset as the employee decided to paint a Clio door in the garage and the 205 managed to pick up some over spray, most of the bodywork feels rough to the touch, will have to get on this once the underside is done.

As she stands now, I was going to get the back axle and tank stripped out today but after doing the garden and having my dinner I decided to leave it for another day. Gives it time to dry off anyway, that's my excuse.

Tucked up, little does she know the spanners are going to be attacking her very soon........

Is that not a little harsh on the wheel bearing and other components the other side?

It's just the angle the weight is loaded I would be concerned about. Curiosity question.

As mei says, it's no different to taking a left hander or jumping a speed bump a little, if there was an issue they wouldn't be available to use as they are.

I even use it on my escort and have used it on plenty of cars with no issues to mention, sure makes life easier.

The lift looks dangerous if you ask me, what if it slips off the wheel and you're under it?

Even with axel stands I use the spare under the car to stop it from crushing me if they slip.

Does the drivers door open? I wouldn't be supprised if it didn't, it'll give you some idea how much strain is around B pillar and where the paint usually cracks at the top and bottom.

Love the restoration project though, bringing it up to modern standards with the painted trim.

Doors open just like they do when it's on all four wheels, the wheel mount goes under the complete wheel, I agree that it's advisable to use a large axle stand but the chances of the car coming off the stand is very slim, the only real hazard I can foresee is if you raise the car to high and flip it on its side.

As all new ish tools etc the more you use them the more you get the feel for it.
