Mine did this occasionally, 2 or 3 years ago, but i can't for the life of me remember why it stopped or how it was fixed! <_<

I'll see if i can find out!

If it's not a stepper motor could be duff alternator or TP sensor <_< does it hunts stronger at idle when you switch on the lights , heater etc. ?

Single point injection is fully controlled by the ECU , and that goes for the idle speed and mixture , non of these things you can't adjust manually so it could be electrical related (if the voltage drops , if theres high current draw it'll affect the engine management ..)

Rgs ! :)

makes no difference if lights, radio etc etc are switched on ! dos that mean it may not be linked to alternator ! you mention TP sensor, where on the engine would i find that ! sorry not familiar with tu engine (ive got a modded 1.9 gti ) also ecu ! if that may be problem where is it located ! same place as gtis under dash drivers side, just to add the car had no build up to this problem, just started one morning ! many thanks for help, want to get it sorted or other half may want to start using my car !!!

The throttle position sensor is on the side of the throttle body/butterfly. i'm pretty sure that the ECU wont be at fault because they never really are.

I remember my mate having this exact problem (albeit on a different car) and it was his dizzy that was knackered. Have you checked it? Sorry if it doesn't have one and I'm being stupid! Not familiar with that model....

Hi i have checked throttle position sensor, and replaced it with one i knows works fine, i havent checked dizzy! wonder if that would cause the problems im having though ! i have never expericened problem like this before on a car !!! ive checked and cleaned entire carb, checked all hoses, pipes etc, changed throttle position sensor and changed idol control motor, its wierd car will not even attempt to idol it just dies straight away ! judders a bit when pulling away unless you rev it high to over come problem, and sometimes feels like a misfire, loss of power at driveing speed only for a very split second then carries on as normal.

One thing i have noticed is that the idle stepper motor, the part with the plunger on it that touches throttle linkage, hardly does anything ! i have tried another one and this does just the same ! maybe just a little twitch and thats it, im sure these motors run all the time moving about and making noises !
