Few Questions About These Carbs

Recommended Posts

holland_gt

Hey,

I've recently been given a Solex twin coke carb and inlet manifold from a AX GT model.

I thought this would be job to fit it onto my 205 GT (registered as a GTX?) seen as these are the same engine (TU3).

On closer inspection I've noticed how my carb has loads of electrical wires (assuming these are for the automatic choke) however the solex is a manual choke. Is it possible to convert my car to run this carb or is it just me being daft.

I'm new on these engines and in desperate need of a haynes manual to help me out :)

Hope you can help

James

It's not a carb on yours at the moment, it's a throttle body. Yours is fuel injected so if you want to put the carb on it then all of the sensors will become redundant as well the ECU. I wouldnt bother if i were you as it wont go much better and the fuel economy will suffer.

Don't make it sound more tempting! I just want power really, I've just got a green air filter for the car, going to sit it in the original box to help give it a nice stream of cold air even if it isn't good looking :( Any ideas for gaining some more power?

I'd leave the injection system on it for now and get yourself a 4-branch manifold. That'll free up a bit of power. Then a head refurbishment with a cam and verner pulley for a bit more, then swap the old ignition system for some mapable DTA iignition. That should sort it out for now :D

Or stick a 1.9 GTI engine in. Not a particularly hard job and you would see nice power increase :D

I'd love to slap the engine in but the big insurance might have something to say about it. The manifold and cam are a nice idea, where can I source these parts though?? I don't want to spend to much on this 205 because I'm hoping to get a GTI next year when my years no claims comes in :D
