I think I'd be getting a wideband and checking that the part throttle fuelling is ok, my personal thoughts are just fouled plugs.

AC ripple?
That the capacitor that's fitted as OE would have filtered out...;)

I think ripple yes. It was charging okay, but something wasn't right with the ignition, I also had some stereo gremlins like whistle and hum, the lights were a bit on the dim side, and it got worse after long journeys. Lots of throttle and it would bog, so when demand came it couldn't keep up. Seems better now, but I've not taken it on a long journey yet.

my engine one - i'm still writing it... it's a big one, will try and do tonight if i can
