Headlight Problem

Recommended Posts

Right i know this has been covered many times before,

i know the earth's for the headlight's are on the inside of the lamp panel, but is there any more for them??

My o/s headlight is playing up, if i flash the main beam the n/s work's properly but on the o/s the headlight and driving light just come on dim, if i switch to low beam the o/s headlight is dimmer.

also when on low beam high beam doesn't work all.

is it just the earth's on the o/s lamp panel i've got to mess around with??

They worked fine yesterday, it's just since i've brought the car home from the bodyshop.

Thanks for your help in advance,

Right one of the problem's sorted, i can get side lights, low beam, and flash main beam, it was the earth's after all, i cut the old connector off and made my own.

Still got one problem though, when on low beam i can't switch onto high beam.

Any ideas??

I have changed the light stalk but no change.

thanks in advance

No, only flash main beam when on side lights and when the lights are off.

is the stalk meant to click? because both of them don't.

I remember along time ago now a similar problem with the 1.6

Turned out to be the opposite earth block to the light that was affected. Everything was corroded up to hell so after a couple of hours cleaning everything up etc it finally worked.

problem for me was,

turn lights on - fine although one was slightly slower to come on that the other but milliseconds difference

turn lights off - fine

turn lights to full beam. everything came on

turn lights back to main beam. driving lights still on.

Turn lights off, - fine

turn lights on to main beam, driving lights came back on again (they shouldnt)

only way it would stop the full beam was to turn ignition off.

Earths can cause all sorts of niggles...

Depending on what the bodyshop have done, you may also have a live short. I found out when a garage did some work for me on the 1.9. They subsequently wont be again.
