I spotted this for sale - £168

Ive been looking for a car for my kid to work on as a project- and that might be insurable when he's 17 - so I've offered him £80....

Says he will take £100. Its a 205 GR - I think it might be just about worth it!

Good work - there should be plenty of cheap parts about to make it a cheapish project for him. Character building stuff and all that.

About 20 years ago my best mates Dad did the same thing, but with a mk 2 Escort RS Mexico. Think it cost him 200 quid at the time but it sat idle for 2 years and then was collected by some other bloke for 400 quid. Think he might be kicking himself now!

Bargain, less than scrap money

Looks like it needs work in all the key areas so would be a good learning experience :D

That old thing is round the corner from me, I did have a quick flick through the pics but too many doors for me.

Great project for your kid though

Yeah there are quite a few better examples but the whole point is that its not great - I want him to learn how to spray a panel, take mechanical parts to bits etc- and not be to precious about it if something goes wrong. At £90 it really doesn't matter much.

Also it will give us something to do!

Ah sorry, didn't fully read your original posts, ideal car!

Would be good to teach him how to detail a car, amazing what can be achieved without having to respray panels using the right equipment and products.

but we did find some rot!

Under the jack and under the rear seat-  I don't think its terminal I know a bloke who should be able to sort it out - I'm not up to welding yet!

All very sortable, under the rear seat is common and many have corrosion to some extent there.
Inner wing again is common although that's pretty bloody bad!!

Instead of paying someone to fix the rot, why don't you both learn to weld together and have a crack at it. Then if it all goes wrong pay someone else to do it. It is supposed to be a learni g curve after all ;-)

Of course I really should do this myself - having done a hours search of the internet it seems inner wings are no longer available? Is this right?

If so I guess I'm going to have to  make a panel.

Today I took a hammer and screwdriver to my slight rot problem- this is what I was left with-impressive!
