[Misc_Work] What To Do With A 205 Rallye

Recommended Posts

fliprio

A friend has recently gotten himself a modern car and decided to pass on his 205 Rallye to a good home, namely my driveway.

post-16234-0-52239500-1364160438_thumb.jpg

Its got an MOT and tax and mechanicaly seems in good condition, bar a slight starting electrical problem.

Now, what should I do with it, tidy up the bodywork, replace the stickers and paint the wheels, or make it into a French Rallye replica? In terms of resale value, does keeping it orginal make it worth more?

There are no end of options! Personally, id get the standard seats fixed up as they look great, xs engine and box on TB's or carbs with a lumpy stick and some headwork, 106 rallye steels and some decent suspension. Bodywork wise probably some rallye arches and a gti rear valance.

Thanks for the ideas guys, im thinking about selling it on once done, so some of the engine work might lose money, suspension and interiour parts should be able to be had for little money.

I do like the rally acrhes and body colour bumpers though

Is yours the one that was in PPC a few years ago?

If you are doing it just to sell it on, new decals, get the wheels done and stick some new seats on there. Done. Anything else and you'll be wasting your money.

Its actualy quite nippy for a 1.4, quite comfy as well compared to my other GTI-6 205. No rust on it what so ever, just afew dents to pull out and spray over.

The rear quarter and bottom of the doors have been repainted, with a colour matched rattle can and lots of sanding with 1500 wet and dry, followed by cut/polish

I'm very tempted to keep it, It doesn't owe me anything apart from the stickers and paint

I've been making a bit more progress on the inside.

With the help from Dave at https://205gticovers.com/index.html I have repaired the drivers seat

It did look like this;

a fair bit of time with the sewing machine and welding up of the broken frame and it looks like this

Pleased with the result, now on to the passenger seat
