1.6 To 1.9 Cranking But Not Starting

Recommended Posts

Well I've managed to get the engine to crank over but it will not fire, I've got a spark and fuel at the rail but no fuel on the spark plugs, I think it's the injectors, the engine has been sat for over a year and I have changed the cam belt and water pump, its the 1.9 engine that I've put in to replace the 1.6.

Does anyone know what this could be ? Thanks dexter

hold a scewdriver to the injectors and listen if they are ticking i.e trying to inject if not sounds like they are gummed up, not unusual if they have been stood with petrol in them, if they are then need to be cleaned ultrasonically

have you checked basics such as power to injectors and a signal for firing them? Is the fuel at the rail pressurised?

Yeah fuel rail has pressure there, I've used an ecu from a different 1.9 engine could it be the wrong one? I cannot here the injectors clicking when I turn it over

see if the injectors have a voltage on them when you turn the engine over, use a digital voltmeter not an analogue one as you can blow the electronics due to the power draw, you should get a short voltage spike. If its there then sounds like problems with injectors

Do you have compression ?

You can manually switch ON/OFF injectors by yourself , set someone to crank the engine , take an piece of wire and connect on all the injector earths .. then while mate cranks you take the end of the wire connected to the all 4 injector earths and simultaneously pulse them by bridging the earth end wire on battery neg. terminal ... can do opposite as well , if you have problem with positive wiring to the injectors .
