Intermittent Rad Fan

As the title says really sometimes in long traffic jams the fan will kick in but other times it won't and it'll get near the boiling over which I do know isn't good for an alloy engine so try to get moving again asap.

I'm thinking it might be the sensor or switch or maybe a loose connection somewhere seeing as it does sometimes work?

Unplug the connector from the radiator thermoswitch and bridge the pins on the wiring plug - if the fan runs as it should (slow on one pair of pins and fast on the other), replace the thermoswitch as a matter of course. If the fans don't come on, check all the connections and condition of the wiring.

As Anthony says, but if shorting the plug terminals gets the fan going, try carefully closing up the "claws" of the lucar terminals in the plug. I had this trouble with mine, and that was all that was wrong. Also be an idea to make sure the contact prongs on the sender are clean as well.
