Insurance Renewal Time, Valuation Needed – How?

Recommended Posts

Atari Boy

The insurance on my 205 is up for renewal next month; it is on a classic policy with guaranteed value.

I have done a few things to the car in the last year so I want to up the agreed value.

Last time I just sent a few photos and comparables from piston heads etc, nice and easy.

I have just spoken to Heritage to get the ball rolling but they said they will need a ‘valuation’ to increase the agreed value, when I asked where I would get such thing, she suggested I speak to a car club if I belong to one.

So what do I need to do chaps?

When I had my A-H Sprite, it was on agreed value. All I did was send a load of detail photos that allowed the insurer to see the car, and they sent them back wth their stamp & a reference. I also submitted receipts for parts and these were also stamped. I think I suggested the value to them, and on the basis of the photos etc, they agreed.

Generally a car club will have someone who deals with values, authentication, etc..... I never used that service from MGOC or the A-H folk.

Cheers,

Brian

I think I have found someone on PSOOC who does them now, so all sorted with luck.

This has always been open to debat as a modified 205 is worth less than a std mint 1,

It's like say spending £800.00 for a service on a new car and it get's written off the next day so basically you loose the £800.00 as this is wear and tear so to speak,

The main area's for a good valuation are, Orginal condition and spec, History, Milage to name a few, I know that if your a PSOOC member I'm sure someone on there can help you

I understand your point Miles, I do not expect to increase the value just because I have spent a few quid on it.

Some of the work however has added value I believe.

My last one was insured (agreed) at £3600.

It reflects the time and money spent on it.

It is a difficult one, I have considered this for my own car, the problem is having done all the work myself I have no invoices for any money spent on the conversion.

I have my 1FM insured with Heritage on agreed value. They wanted someone of some 'authority', if that's the right word, to value it. I just rang up Tony Philpott of the PSOOC and he sorted it out. So drop him a line, if you haven't already :P
