Crank Position Sensor

Recommended Posts

mos

i have search to death on this but no joy

i am currently wiring in my kms system and the wiring schemtaic supplied with it only implies the use of two pins on the crank position sensor, although the loom supplied has three wires?!

my confusion is compounded by the fact that the s16 crank position sensor i have also has three pins

this implies to me crank sensors use all three but the kms instructions are unclear

so what do they all do and do i need to connect all three when using the kms ecu?

thanks

It can be either a 3 wire hall type which i dont think it will be, where you have a supply, earth and a signal which is normally the middle pin.

It will probably be in inductive type which is a general inductive sensor with a shield wire around the signal.

Sorry I dont know much about KMS so can't help you but there are plenty of people that can.

one of the outside pins is just the shield, which needs to be grounded. You need the centre pin and the other outside pin. One of these will become a ground as well.

So my best advice is to try the centre as the signal, then join and ground the outside two pins. This is only from memory. I'll see if I can find the schematic.
