Uprated Lower Engine Mount

Recommended Posts

Pob

Hi all,

I'm going to replace the lower mount, Is it worth going for an uprated one? What are the pro's and con's of it or is it just better to stick with a standard one? Would it reduce the Kangarooing in 1st?

Where is the best place to get them from?

Thanks,

Dan

if you put a solid lower engine mount bush on it will vibrate quite a bit

if its your everyday car it will get on your nerves a bit but if its just a weekend car then go for it.

it stops the forward/backward rocking in the engine allowing better gear changes

try baker bushes (i think thats what they are called)

It is my daily driver, I've read about the increase vibration... A mate of mine has one on his, although his is diesel so not really a good benchmark... makes your teeth rattle a bit lol.

I think I will stick with the standard one, it's not used on the track and any more vibration will do my head in B)

Thanks for the quick reply,

Dan

i only had the lower one on my 1.9

it vibrated a lot and i found because i didnt use solid ones on the gearbox and top mount it kept braking the top mount pin from the rubber B)

so when the engine goes back in its having solid all round..........better sort out an appointment with my dentist

The mate with the diesel started by replacing the rear mount and it wasn't that bad, then he replaced all the mounts and it made alot of difference to vibration. It might not be too bad on a 1.9.

I'll stick to a standard one B) I bought one about a month ago, the first thing I noticed was the outer ring was plastic not metal. I thought it was due to a different design. But it was too small, any ideas what its from? Looks the same as the standard 1.9 mount, but small

Thanks,

Dan

I would have thought a GTI would vibrate less than a diesel so you may want to try a passenger ride in a GTI with a run in group N mount to see what its like as some people don't mind them on a daily driver.

New standard upper mounts should be fine with a group N lower mount.

Any Group N Mounts will increse vibration. Depends what you want the car for. You cant really have the performance of uprated, without the downsides that go with it.

I have the set, and they did quieten down a bit over time. But they are still a fair bit louder than stock.

My BBM lower mount vibrated like mad when I first fitted it, but it seems fine now, don't even notice it.

I've been running that setup for 15000 miles now for road/track and had no problems at all - the engine barely moves, but there's almost no vibration at all B)

I cleaned the lower mount and filled out the gaps with polyurethane, the typ you can get in a DIY store, used to seal cracks in brick walls and stuff like that outdoors.

Vibrates just so much that the inside rear view mirror is useless at some rpms, but the car is still comfortable.

Is using solid engine mounts necessary in combination with an extractor downpipe?
