What Have You Done To Your 205 Today?

Recommended Posts

The triumph was sold on for £1800 so that turned a tidy profit:D

Nope I've still got the 205 but may sell it if I get a sensible offer.

I'm keeping the Rover , at least for the summer then maybe get rid. I quite like it !

Called it a lot of predominantly 4 letter names!!!

Got an omp bolt in cage to remove as it needs cleaning up and painting so it needs to remain intact, it’s the one that bolt down onto the front axle mount and folds round the seat squab where it was welded to the shell.

Front half and rear halve connected by sleeves  and it’s tied into the roof frame by each front grab handle and in front of each sunvisor plus the a pillar and b pillar at the seatbelt locations. The sleeves won’t slide forward enough the release the rear cage as the sleeve fouls the welded attachement on the cage to the roof frame at the grab handle.

Cage is fully released at all locations but there is no way it’s coming out, anyone got any pointers. Cage needs to remain intact and be reinstalled so chopping it isn’t an option.

I’ll get some pics after lunch.

never heard of any cage being bolted to the grab handles, I'd cut those tabs off

those are not original to the cage, they look very home made.

also specifically if its being used for motorsport will invalidate the certificate for the cage as a whole and they will not meet current regulations as individual parts.

Yeah having had a look through omp cages non have that fixing so they have been added, cage/car was last used in the Pirelli in 1995, guess scruitineering was a little more lenient then?

any notched/slit the sleeve to go round past the tab and it’s now out.

I think this car will only see night/targa/hrcr event so isn’t a major issue

My new wheels have arrived :)

Evo Corse X3MAZero : 9x13, ET0, 5kg per rim, 11kg with tyres.

Fitted them today on my car and YES... they fit perfect, even enough clearance to my front brakes (266mm from a Peugeot 206)

picked apart a chassis leg off a corner of a 205 Gentry a mate was scrapping last week, I'd chopped the whole corner off to sort mine as its been nudged over about half an inch, thankfully the crease is in front of the subframe mounting.

Finally got round to Replacing the ageing tyres, that came on when I bought her in 2019, got a shock when looking at the tyre codes showing 8 years :o.

With some brand new ps3’s fitted driving is now a night and day difference as expected.

Finally got round to taking a few pics of the car on the EXIP alloys (fitted a couple of weeks back) after getting the car cleaned last week.

Not the best pics as it was a bit overcast but overall i think i made the right decision with the colour for the wheels tbh as they seem to blend well with the mouldings.

Hopefully get the paintwork sorted on the doors & the reflective moulding removed / refitted by the end of the month and then have a chat with a trimmer about repairing the split in the driver seat fabric.  Plus think about getting the original red moulding on the front bumper and fit the new front reg plate.

Missed the first autosolo of 2021 due to an MoT failure (emissions), but just about scraped through in time for one yesterday.

Car not running 100%, and a wrong direction penalty cost me a handful of places, but still pleased with 11th overall for my first time out since breaking it nearly two years ago.  Got 5 of the 20 FTDs in class, so a really good close event.

As usual no photography or videos allowed on MoD property, but here's one I risked next to another 87 1.9 there on the day, and one from afar taken by @MrG who was competing in a sprint at the same venue in his flying Caterham.

Bagged 2nd silverware of 2021 at Brands GP - this time a 2nd in class.

Terrible quali conditions but thankfully dried out for the race. Bloody thing popped out of 1st gear at the start so had a bit of a recovery drive on my hands early on!

Qualifying:

Race:

Silverware!

edit: also managed to drive it there and back home again! 1st race in a long time where the spanners didn't have to come out!

Nice result! It looks pretty quick compared to other cars on track... B)

... and then drive it home after full race. :D . Think I wouldn't take the risk and trailer to track.

Your car looks awesome @AlexRS2782B)

Cheers - it's still got a way to go yet until i'm happy, but it's getting there (albeit slowly).

It's spent the last week at the bodyshop getting the paintwork sorted on the side doors.  No more faded white and as of today there's now a pretty decent Miami Blue match.  Obviously as it's new paint it's a bit more obvious than that on the rear 1/4 & front wings, but thankfully a bit of testing and a bit of lightening by custom mixing the paint has given it a bit of an aged look so the blend is about 95% there and only really noticeable in some angles / lights.

Pretty happy overall as it certainly makes it look much nicer - plus, thankfully, the bulk of the trims all came off / went back on without breaking, apart from 1 clip on the driver side interior mirror cover, but i can always grab the repair kit from BBM later on to get it sorted.

Hopefully next job will be to have a chat with a local trimming company i've used before to get the fabric repair sorted on the driver seat.

I've had the 205 on a diet. I'd modified a pair of doors many years ago, but never did anything with them. A standard door in Australia weighs approx. 21Kg because they have side intrusion bars. I probably got a bit too ambitious, as the class of racing we're in demands a standard internal handle. Thus I had to put some metal back in and also to support the window runner. The polycarb is special double-coated, so it doesn't scratch when your mate wipes down the windows. We also have to run a door card, either aluminium or carbon/kevlar. I've almost finished the later.

I also fitted a Cartek XR battery isolator. I've been through a few different solutions over the years and I have to say, it's money well spent and the best so far. I was going to buy the cheaper GT model. Luckily they were out of stock and I had to dig deeper. I found a neat spot for the external button. Simply dropping the negative off the battery is such a brilliant idea.
