It now has a 19t

 

Yes the turbo is working hard but there's not much else I can do without changing the turbo...

 

It's probably not going to like the anti-lag either. :D

The turbo is ran at 22psi on a 2.3 Volvo so it won't be quite out of its efficiency range on a 2.0 although a bigger turbo at a low pressure will reduce the heat in the exhaust but will cause quite a bit more lag and it's too much hassle swapping to a td05 as the intake and down pipe flanges are silly shapes.

 

 

 

Your engine will probably take more cfm at the same pressure.

 

Note that the Subaru td05 is different (smaller) than the late evo td05's

Putting a 19T on the same restricted turbine, will make the temperature rise....

 

What AFR are you running at full boost?

Is the Subaru td05 twin scroll?

 

Ideally Ill dyno the car at 15psi and increase the boost until it starts loosing powered due to the excess pressure being turned in to heat. Possibly 20psi is optimum.

I'm not changing the pistons or the turbo.

 

This system will work fine.

 

If the turbo isn't in it efficiency zone then it won't be making maximum power so ill just have to find its sweet spot. However the boost pressure will still be over a 1bar..

 

What I was asking is if anyone is aware of a good method of fitting the water cooling to the turbo,

 

For example a water feed from the thermostat then the return to the back of the block. Like the 8v turbo if I remember correctly.

 

Perhaps a turbo blanket is a bad idea at such high boost?

I ran the water feed from a t piece I made in the rad top hose, using aeroquip fittings to banjos on the turbo. Then returned to a fitting on the ally distribution block on the back of the engine. I just drilled and tapped the hole, it's worked with no leaks for me so far.

 

Is your turbo the same as mine with water feed and return on one side?

It does have the two water at one side but I think they have them at both sides for different orientations.

 

The garrett turbos run from one side to the other at a 20 degree incline to the return.

 

Perhaps the TD series actually have the water run round the whole turbo cartridge?

 

I'm away ATM so can't check my own.

I can confirm that they have water ways at both sides of the turbo.

 

If the feed and return is only at one side it is wrong as thermal siphonenig will not occur.

Don't think so as that's how it was run on the subaru engine, so must work for them.

I need to have a closer look at mine with the pipes removed to see if the water would go in at one side all the way round the turbo then back through the return.

 

Obviously it can't really work if it goes in one side then straight back out without traveling through the turbo.

 

I would imagine it has to flow to remove the heat.

Does it not flow around a outer jacket around the turbo housing in a 360 motion?

I know there are extra ports for use when the turbo is on a different car.

Mine has two extra blanked off holes on the opposite side, best things to check yours when you get chance.

 

It would have been water cooled on the Volvo engine won't it.

Mine has two holes at both sides.

 

Only one is blanked off.

Im currently looking for somwhere to take the car to have some final mapping and cam timimg adjusted to get the most out of the engine.

 

It also has an issue with either the gearbox of diff that will need sorted.

 

Can anyone recomend somwhere that really know what there doing?

Did that give you enough fuel for you engine? also

 

  1. what fuel pump are you running?
  2. what injectors where you running?
  3. did you ever manage to up the rev limit on the standard ecu?
  4. what engine loom where you running?
