i have been offered a good gti6 engine that i know was making standard power (rr figure) plus the ecu loom keys everything basically. However when removed from the car , the ecu was not unlocked. Rather than wiring it into the car using the transponder and all the rest of it , i would sooner pay some to get either the ecu unlocked, or to buy a already unlocked ecu. Just wondering is it simply the case that any ecu will drop onto the loom with no problems etc so long as its unlocked.

yeah it will be fine as long as it's unlocked

i think some one was selling one on here for £85 iirc

EDIT: however if you've got it all there you could in theory just conenct the couple of power feed wires you need up to a battery turn the ignition to the second position so that the ecu becomes unlocked and then just whip the ecu off it, you wouldn't need to have the engine runnign to unlock it

will i not have to connect all the wires with regards to the transponder etc in order to allow the chip in the key to desmobilise the ecu or will simply wiring up the basics do the job? . Just come across a bit of a hurdle, the guy has already sold the eghaust manifold, and im guesing they dont come cheap.

you'll have to plug the ecu and transponder into a car, turn the ignition on with your chip near the ignition switch, once powered up the ecu is unlocked then you can unplug it.

exhaust manifold you can pick up fairly easily, though everyone I've seen recently has gone for around the £40-50 mark.

ah cool thats a good answer then, ill see if i can knock him down £50 quid or so , do i only need to supply the wires required for the transponer (aswell as the ecu of course) power then, so simply a car battery sat next to me, and earthed of course will suffice.

one more thing, i have a clifford cat 1 alarm installed on my car, with all the window closure buisness, and i quite like it, just wondering will the engine swap get in the way of it, and will i be required to get somebody to wire it all back in ?

it #shouldn't# do but iut all depends on how it's wired it up and might depend on which cirecuits the immobiliser disables ie ECU Power/Fuel Pump/Stater Motor

Hopefully if someone competant has fitted it then the immboliser will be wired into the parts of the loom behind the dash that are fixed and aren't removed as part of the wiring conversion. You should just be able to mate the wires from the 2 multiplugs under that dash to your gri6 loom and away you go

brill , yea ive swapped the 1.9 engine once and didnt disturb the alarm , and it all appears to be wired under the steering colom. When the imobiliser is on , the engine turns turns over, but wont start.

sounds like its disabled the ecu and fuel pump circuits ( which is best as you could always just hot wire the starter) leaving your car with only 1 circuit protecting it really
