Boiled Brake Fluid (Golf Gti)

Recommended Posts

I managed to overheat the fluid in my Golf, due to a sticky rear caliper. The fluid was bubbling out the top of the cap, pedal to the floor = no brakes  . New pads, discs and a thorough cleaning of the calipers will be done, but I'm guessing I should get the fluid changed as well, as that will have air in now?

if theres enough moisture in the fluid for it to actually boil then its well overdue changing yes, there will be a lot of air in there now.

Should be changed every two years at least.

As wp said it needs to be changed often as brake fluid absorbs water readily so once it's been in a while the boiling point lowers

Thanks all. As I thought then, though it was changed (by a main stealer) less than 2 years ago. There can't have been that much moisture in the fluid, but I guess the over-heating due to the sticky caliper has exacerbated things?
