Citroen C4 E-Hdi 1.6 Query

Quick question for anyone that has knowledge of these motors.

Driving along in my partners car yesterday and the engine warning light pops up saying repair needed. It seems good old citroen hasn't actually included error codes on the display in this model so had no idea what it could have been. Took it to the dealer as it's still within manufacturers warranty although they can't take it in to have a look until after the weekend.

When driving it home another warning popped up saying battery not charging stop the vehicle. Got it home and had a look as I had guessed it may be alternator related and turns out the auxilliary belt has snapped.

Now from what I can see the alternator belt runs what looks like the power steering pump below the alternator although the car still has power steering. Does anyone know if it is the power steering pump I'm seeing, if not what is it and would it be an issue driving the car 15 minutes along the road back to the dealer? I have read that this model uses some fancy alternator setup to power the stop/start eco mode system instead of the typical bulky starter motor, could what I'm seeing be related to that?

Problem I have is the Mrs breakdown cover will only recover the vehicle to the closest garage, if a repair cannot be carried out at roadside which is not the main dealers garage. I don't want to end up having to fork out for Labour at an alternative garage when it should be covered under the warranty.

Anyone have an idea of the liklihood that a roadside repair Will have a correctly sized alternator belt in their van?

Thanks in advanced for your help.

Cheers

they have electro-hydraulic PAS, like the 106/saxo.

given the massive number of variances in belt types and lengths, it will be unlikely they have the right size belt on the van, there are 3 different length belts for a-c 1.6 hdi c4's depending on ace.

enter your vin and you'll find the right one.

see links to servicebox below.

I would tow it back to the dealer if its only 15 minutes away, or buy a belt, even at a dealer they're no more than £20, save the inconvenience of having the car at a dealer for a few days.

I take it that its the new model C4, the B7. Alternator belts snapping is a common fault to be honest. Usually will have the belt and both tensioners replaced under warranty, if you PM me your reg i can check its warranty history and what exactly runs on the belt. The power steering is electric on these so doesn't run from it.

Below the alternator (which is also the stop start unit itself) is a tensioner and below that is the air con compressor, assuming you have air con.
