Saxo Vts Rear Beam Problem

Recommended Posts

dobboy

I knew there was a problem with the beam on this car i just bought.

When i jacked back end up tonight, and shake the NS rear wheel the full trailing arm moves, with the wheel moving in and out about 20mm.

I took the wheel off and noticed the m10 bolt on the little end plate was loose, so out of curiosity (i've never repaired a beam) i tried to loosen the bolt and it snapped without any force.

I have another beam ready to go on, but wonder if anyone has an idea what could be wrong with it, and is it repairable in situe?

Tia

it should have been an m8 bolt not m10, those bolts on the 106/saxo and 206 beams always work loose when the bearings go due to the twisting forces placed on them, not uncommon to see knackered threads, but given its a symptom of a fooked beam, I'd not bother trying to repair it!

Thanks WP.

I'm fairly certain it is M10, at the broad part of bracket, m8 at the thinner end.

Aw well beam swap it is......it's the brake lines that i'm not looking forward to.

Thanks again

brakes are easy, unbolt the load compensator and calipers, remove lower damper bolts and brake hose brackets, and iirc thatll be it and the beam will come off leaving the brakes dangling.

My other beam has the load compensator, but the one on the car hasn't, maybe cos ABS?

Do you happen to know if the stub axels for the hub/wheel bearings are the same on ABS and non ABS beams?

Yeah, the ARB bolt, plastic? Nay wonder it snapped. I was doing it tonight in pissing rain with a 110v light set up.... Not ideal. These cars are a pain to jack up too, they keep going sideways/changing position as they go up.

WP, i took the beam off today. The ARB was loose/broken/disconnected somehow. A screw was missing from the plate on the OS, and i could have pulled it right out.

Apart from that i also noticed some numpty had ran the break lines the wrong way on one side and it was like a guitar string/accident waiting to happen...... very glad i've noticed.

Still think the beam is goosed/scrap?
