Cheap! (And Cheerful) Seat Subframe Mount Ideas?

Recommended Posts

dobboy

Hi, has anyone came up with any cheap and cheerful idea's to allow bucket seats to be fitted? (for my saxo)

My seats take a 8mm stud's to the bottom of them.

I was thinking maybe I could use some 3" Aluminium "C" channel, one flange bolted to the seat and the other direct to the floor.

Anyone came up with any other/better/cheaper ways that doesn't involve welding?

TIA

cheapest AND safest methods involve welding.

why not weld?

bolting cheap alloy directly to the floor is not a safe way to do it.

I don't have a welder WP, car isn't legal etc to get it to somebody to weld.

I think the channel would be safe enough, i'd put backing plates underneath the car at fixings etc.

The seats currently have modified galvanised purling used for cladding roofing on them! but it would take the hand off you.

I thought the C channel was a good idea if it would sit flat on the floor.

a 205 floor isn't flat enough or strong enough to have seats bolted straight to it.

get a mobile welder to install tubes between sill and exhaust tunnel, bolt seats to rails.

had a seat bolted to floor mounted brackets ----- hit one bump or run over a kerb if a track car and the impact goes straight into the seat base and up your back HARD - as wp said get mounting bars welded in properly with reinforcing plates and job done !!![dont skimp on safety ]

Is that not the same for the proprietry sub frames you can buy?

I'll see what i can do about getting a welder, but would've like the option to be able to adjust the seat in case the mrs fancied a go!

The subframes you can buy bolt to the original seat mounts and not the floor. Do it properly or leave the standard seats in.

Ah, i didn't know that.

The ones i've seen look as though the seat mounts to the subframe from the side. So i guess i'd be looking for Saxo specific subframes that can mount a seat with underside fixings?
