imaS 0 Posted October 17, 2015 I have the pre-historic Bendix ABS system in my 1990 405 Mi16x4. And yes, that is the electro-hydraulical system that can lose all the brakes quite easily. It occasionally flashes the warning light while braking. Does anybody have a service manual for that? I would like to have a copy.
Tom Fenton 1,518 Posted October 18, 2015 I had a couple of 405's with that system, yes rather scary when there are no brakes whatsoever. The problem I found was the pump operation is interlocked with the low fluid warning in the reservoir. E.g. If the fluid is too low the pump will not run. In my case the switch in the reservoir had gone dicky and caused the pump not to run even though there was plenty of fluid. I linked the switch out which cured the fault for me. The only other issues I had were wheel speed sensor related, weak sensors or dirty trigger rings. I had a couple of 405's with that system, yes rather scary when there are no brakes whatsoever.
