306 Dturbo Wrong Water Pump?

Recommended Posts

stumpyjag

Hi all,

I have just spent the day doing a cam belt, tensioner, idler, crank seal, and water pump change on my 1998 306 DTurbo.

All went very well with no unforeseen issues, it was only while I was finishing off and putting the bottom cam cover on I notice a large gap in the cover. To start with I thought the cover was broken but when I compared the old water pump to the new one the old one has a upstand built into the casting which completes the cam cover and the new one doesnt.

So I now have a working car but with a gapping whole through to the cam belt. Parts were ordered from Eurocarparts via the reg number but I am guessing I have the water pump for a different model.

Can anyone confirm if I do have the wrong water pump.

Cheers

Yes wrong pump. I have seen them fitted the other way around on a 205 GTI with the belt covers hacked to pieces to "fit".

I thought as much. A part from the cam cover it wont do any damage to anything will it. Would you go to all the work of removing it or am I worrying about nothing.

It wont do damage, your belt may get contaminated by any crap thrown about down there though.

There are 3 different 205 XUD water pump types.

I have hack sawed the upstanding part off the old pump, and pop rivetted it to the plastic belt cover with a thin metal strip in the past.

The earlier pumps were a lot cheaper back then.

Thanks all.

I've emailed euro car parts to see what they say, no reply yet no surprise there.

Thanks again.

I had this issue with mine, and typically the most expensive pump is the one with the guard cast into it..

I don't suppose anyone knows the part number I am after. I have given euro car parts the number on the original pump and they say they don't recognise it or know the correct one I need.

Cheers.

Just a quick update. After a little bit a email tennis Eurocarparts have just dispatched the correct pump for me free of charge because as Welshpug confirmed for me there is actually only one pump for my car and they list three. Many thanks for the help.
