Any Saab Experts Here?

Folks,

Thought I'd post this here too, as Ive not had any luck on UK Saabs. I'm really just looking for a wiring diagram for the car - 2007 9-3 Saloon Aero 2.0T. In particular the windrescreen washer and wipe schematics are what I'm after.

The background....

My windscreen wash stopped working last week. Initially I thought it was simply frozen, however thinking back I recall an odd smell in the cabin - perhaps electrical, however I had a really bad cold, so I'm not so sure.

The wipers work normally, intermitent, slow and fast. They park just as the should.
What doesn't work are the washers (screen & headlamps) and the 3 or 4 courtesy sweeps of the wipers.

The fuse in the engine bay had popped - So I replaced it. Still no change.

I opened up the wheel arch - I disconnected the pump wiring and checked for a voltage to each, when the switch was activated. Absolutely nothing.

The relay in the engine bay seems to work. I took it out and put power across it. It clicked really well, and I get continuity across it.

The stalk itself mechanically seems just as it should. No awkward clicks or crunches. The car's only done 50k, so I'd not think it's overly worn or abused.

What I lack is a wiring diagram to help me trace back a little further. I'm assuming this is either an issue at the stalk or a control module/ECU between the relay and the stalk. I've googled for something appropriate, to no avail.

Does anyone have one they could share?

Cheers,

Brian

Guess UK Saabs is still dead as a dodo then! A wonder the site is still available!

Locally we have a very friendly Vauxhall breaker. Not sure with your particular model however with my wife's Saab they have proved very helpful as many of the parts are the same. HTH

Thanks guys - I think my main options are to buy a Haynes manual in the hope the diagrams are sufficeint, or a months trial of Autodata at £8 (normally £60).

Got a few days off, week after next, so hopefully figure it out then.

GLP - I forgot you'd had Saabs! I'd hoped the UK Saab's site would be quite good, but 15 views of my thread in 3 days and no reply's doesn't bode well. Weird that there's so little in the way of wiring diagrams.

Cheers,

Brian

I hate saabs. You need tech2 to speak to them. I am sure the system runs off the ecu, as there is a distinct delay on the washers when you use them. Possibly an ecu fault. I think the ecu is behind osf part of bumper.

theres a bloke on facebook who may help - Ron Saab Leeds

Well, one 9-3, for all of 6 days! :D

I registered with UK Saabs back then and the place was crap, just no traffic. I think some of the other forums (Saabscene?) might be better even if they are more tuning-centric. I think DrSarty may have frequented one a few years back when he was planning to build a Beemer with a Saab engine. So if you are really stuck it's probably worth registering and posting on the other forums.

Clearly I'm prone to exageration :D

Yep, there are a few Saab forums ot there - maybe need to try the US ones.. Certainly plenty advice on remapping and probably blowing the tops off the pistons

I have a bad feeling this'll be an ECU thing. On the positive side I've identified the relay so worst case I just need to run in a new bit of wiring and switch to operate the washers.

Just had the rear arches painted and the bodyshop made a royal mess of it. A blindfolded monkey would have done better.

I just learned the other day that many Saabs play the indicator tick-tock sound through the speakers, so I wouldn't be surprised if you are right. Crazy Swedes!

probably right as there isn't a conventional relay.

I'd love to know what was going through the minds of the engineers when this level of complexity was decided upon as the best course of action..

Anthony, I think complexity has it's benefits, but I don't think designers/engineers look to the long term implications to maintenance. Cars are white goods these days, the days of the driveway mechanics tinkering every weekend and keeping old cars going with parts from the local breakers yard are gradually disappearing.

I think they'd just finished designing the TVR Cerbera's electrics, and dizzy with the unecessary complexity that had been blessed with, they created the 9-3.

The whole tech2 thing seems a right pain. I tried my generic code reader function on my VCDS and it did absolutely nil.

I bought a Haynes manual yesterday - looks like I have a couple things to look at yet. I think I may have sensed some burning in the cabin, so in that most electric bits are in the engine bay and only the switch/stalk is inside the cabin, I think the switch is odds on the issue. Got a few days holidayt next week, so I'll have a look there first.
