Possibilities Of A 1.4, 1.6 And 1.8 16v In A Tu Set-up?

Recommended Posts

Anyone thought peugeot, cirteon and rover share the same 1500 cc diesel engine.

Well they all use the same engine mount, and im nearly 99% sure a K-series will bolt staright into a diesel rover metro.

Maybe the K series will bolt straight into a 205 using a Tu engine?? Maybe a mix and match of engine mounts, which gives you a load of engine sizes.

Anyone thought about this?

Bolting the engine in would be the easy bit, matching up driveshafts/gearboxs may be the tricky bit. Although Rover used the TUD in the Metro/100 and the XUD in 200/400, 8v K series engines used the MA gearbox, so there may be something out there to get a 16v K series in a 205 (or 106). Worth a trip to the scrappy to look at some dead Rovers (should be plenty around :) ) or just crawl under a few parked cars.

the gearbox on all the TUD are exactly the same, the only difference is the gear selector mechanisms (only the arms need changing though) There are a few differences though, one being that the bottom engine mount on the diesel engine is located on the gearbox, this is also the same for the K series engines.

just remember the 1.8 VVC engine comes in a standard 160bhp form, and it is very light and compact.

Just a suggestion anyway, I have no idea if it will work or not.

edit - all the K series engines use the MA box, but its referenced as a R65 box on the rover's. The only K series to use a different gearbox is the VVC ehich uses a PG1 gearbox (and one of them even comes equiped with a LSD as standard)

My mother drives a 200 series 1.4 16v and she's comin round this morning :o

Ok, further to my earlier post - it wouldn't be a straight fit, but would probably fit in the space and looking at the manifolds etc would be well worth the effort i expect. Especially when you consider its in a bigger, heavier car to begin with. They're not slow either when you put your foot down, admittedly not that often with my mother driving. Unfortunately she wants her engine left where it is

K series in a 205 might sound an strange choice given the tuning options available with the XU (both 8 & 16v), but in a 106 it makes a lot more sense

we are talking about using the k series engine in a Tu set-up.

Had a look at both a diesel 106 and metro diesel. They both use the 1500cc diesel engine, both have slightly different mount arms, but they can be exchanged between models to fit either. And the diesel metro has the same chassis as the normal K series metro, so its definitly possible

Step 1: find high-spec k-series elise....

Step 2: Buy mask.
