Tu3s Engine Modifications

Recommended Posts

Guest jlawson

Managed to get hold of a TU3S out of a Citroen AX Gt.

Engine has done about 70 000 miles.

I would like to get at least 100bhp from the engine at the flywheel.

What modifications will I need to do get this?

The engine needs to be reliable as it is my daily transport.

Can I anyone recommend a company to do this in the Nottingham,Derby ,Leics area.

What work will be needed to get it to rev safely at about 7000rpm like my old 106 Rallye.

What sort of cost ? Any ideas.

Should be fine at 7000rpm. I'd say a decent set of carbs + intake/exhaust manifolds should see you there.

i know a chap in the stock hatch championship that runs an almost standard ax gt engine at 9000rpm and he hasnt had to touch it for 2 seasons. if your after good power stick on a 1.3 rallye head ansd a decent carb and you should see the healthy side of 100 bhp just be careful that the comp ratio is ok

you been reading max power again? :P

a 1.3 head from a 106 rallye engine? bet you dont find many of them knocking about. and if your talking about a 1.3 205 rallye head then you best get looking for that rocking horse poop aswell.

how long's it going to take you to fab up a manifold for the "decent carb" might aswell go for 40's.

try a 106 XSi cylinder head and pistons ;) like im doing in my engine. The TU3S cylinder head just doesnt have the tuning potential that the XSi head has.

rally_ax off this forum revs his TU3S to nigh on 9000rpm and doesnt even know its condition. 7000rpm is nothing for a TU.

I bought my TU24 head complete with cam from frech ebay for less than £100 delivered. Took a bit of a punt on it but it has turned out to be spot on.

Bren - which cam are you planning to use with the 106 Xsi head? Are you using the 106 Xsi one and switching to an electrical fuel pump?

He's awa' wi' the missus thrashing it round Kielder Forest this w/e so I'll correct that slight exaggeration on his behalf. The revlimiter is set to 8000 for rolling road days and just under that the rest of the time. It's never been anywhere near 9k. It is however quite happy to 8k on a standard bottom end and valve springs.

Sandy

If you use a later 106 Rallye or XSi head (a good idea generally, better inlet ports and nicer valve sizes), you'll need to skim it about 1mm to get the compression back up to a reasonable level. i'd be tempted to use the S1 Rallye inlet with an aftermarket ECU with either head and you'll have a nice potent engine with good manners and none of the carb hassles.

my mistake sire. you get the idea, you can nail them all day long at high rpm.
