Gti6 Caliper Piston Seal Size.

Recommended Posts

So I'm rebuilding my gti6 calipers and I've hit a bit of a roadblock.

I'm tried inserting the piston back into the cylinder with a new seal but the seal looks far to small. I broke one while trying to insert it. I understand it's meant to be a tight fit but seal doesnt even sit in the groove tightly. Any thoughts?

Also does anyone know where I can buy those seals individually ?

Maybe they are seals from the smaller 306 brakes? 266mm rotors, 52mm?

Same bolts most Lucas/Girling calipers (e.g 1.9 GTi) use on 205's. 306's etc - they're much shorter than the Bendix calipers ones you've probably removed.

As said, GTi-6 are 57mm pistons and are the only 306 brakes of that size. I suspect you've been given the more common 54mm piston kit as used on most of the 266mm brake applications (306 XSi, HDi, S16 etc).

From what I can see on Servicebox, the OE part number for the GTi-6 caliper seal kit is 4448.79 if you want to cross-reference against that. It's quite expensive from Peugeot though at £30.72 inc VAT, presumably per side.

Careful. Some 306 caliper bolts are M12x1.25, not M12x1.5 like a 205.

Little update

I bought a kit it was the wrong size

Bought another kit

Fitted one side

Broke the other side

Bought another kit for one side (different brand)

That was the wrong size

Returned that

I rang the second company, they agreed to replace the dust seal, that I broke free of charge.

Big shoutout to biggred !
