Wide Beam Options Other Than 309

Recommended Posts

is there any other back axle tubes that can be used other than a 309 to go wide?

the 306 etc or partner for example?

just because the torsion bars fit i was wondering if the tube could be used too?

cant find any 309 tubes round my way.

thanks

how about a Skip brown camber kit on a 205 beam and some uprated torsion bars? this adds a little width and gives camber.

the 306 and 405-partner beams are too wide, I believe though that the 306 can be made to fit without too much fabrication work, you would need wide arches with the original panel cut away (dimma style not just rallye type)

The 405-partner assembly is far larger and would need extensive restructuring of the rear floor, again, would be a tad wide for a standard body.

No. 306, Partner etc beams are a different fitment and would require the shell to be modified/butchered to fit.

306 beams have been fitted to 205's before, but they're far too wide IMO - the wheels stick out a good inch or two past the arches on both sides.

My 205 Beam has just had DES developments negative camber kit put on it and the stability is greatly improved over the standard 205 beam. As tested at Brands Hatch.

It also gives a bit of extra track due to the spacer/kit used and as the wheels are more / \ shaped with 1.5 degrees of -ve camber they fit under the arch just perfectly.

I'd never go back to a standard 205 or 309 beam now!

I didn't know DES did such a kit - I'd be interested (from a purely nerdy perspective) how it looks compared to my Skip Brown set up.

oh well never mind,

i dont want crazy wide i just thought since the torsion bars from partner can go in a 309 beam mayby the tube was same.

i was planing using 309 tube zx arms partner torsion bars and gti-6 arb,

want to keep stock parts as its fro a track car so may get damaged

I'd use some wider wheels than extra track, more rubber is just as good,

I would guess the kit is the same as Skip B's at a huge guess if the spacer is used, but again there are better way's of doing this as the beams are normally not right even when new

the 309 axle was more for the options on arb and tb rather than just the extra width.

The extra width isn't really desirable on the back IMO, it's the front that needs it.

A 205 beam with 306 td rear drums will add a bit of width but not as much as a 309 tube but you also need to change the stub pins to the 306 ones aswell.

how much butchering then?

i am thinking about using my 306xsi beam for my 205 (seeing as the 205 one is buggered anyway)
