How Low Can Ya Go !

Sorry!

They're the dimensions of the tyre.

195 is the width of the tyre; 50 is the depth (profile) and 15 is the size of the rim ". It's a bit more complicated than that but I'm not sure how to explain it!

Standard 15" 1.9 alloys wear 185/55/15 tyres but most people use 195/50/15's as they look better (50 is lower profile) and are wider so grip a bit better.

You can also use 195/45/15's which are even lower profile which could give better acceleration and fit more easily under your arches - but they cost more.

Have a look at the main website - most of the pugs are lowered but they are also gti's which have wider arches making lowering easier.

Edit: I meant to say 195/50/15 on my earlier post but it won't let me change it.

My 205 with some arch work and 195/50/15 tyres still rub a bit, especially on the rear inner arch. Mine is lowered around 50mm, and based on non-GTis being a bit higher than GTis initially I reckon it's about the same as a 35mm drop for the GTi.

Make of tyre does definately make a difference as someone said. I currently have Yoko A539s, before that I had Toyo T1Ss, the Yoko has a much straighter side wall than the Toyo which curved away a bit at the edge. There's definately more rubbing now then there was with the Toyos.

imag0018b.jpg

looks quite smart!

i believe it's around 30 - 40mm lowered all round and is running 159/50/15's on 1.9 speedlines. it will occasionally scrub on the rear whan going fast on very bumpy roads but will scub half the time with rear passengers!!! i'm going to fit a spare set of 1.9 gti shocks to the rear to see if this stiffens it up at all... should help.

I think thats an evo front valance from pug performance.

My front is just as high as that. Will lower it when i have a 1.9 engine conversion. Mine rubs on the front when i turn to the left, but not the right :) It has 195/50/15....Cant see how it rubs as its so high?? Anyone elses do that?

My 1.6 205 is 70mm lower on the front and about the same on the back 2 splines on 1.6 wheels. U could roll the rear arch out a bit 2 make it easyer.
