What Mpg Should I Get From My Cj?

Recommended Posts

tonycj

Seems to me that i am constantly filling up my CJ with fuel (1360cc engine), i can get about 250 miles out of my tank, which i think isnt a lot.

Can anyone give me any idea if this is fine or not?

Also when i am running around in the car it seems to cut out every now and again, only for a fraction of a second but its realy annoying, i think it may be fueling but im not sure, ive changed the plugs, leads, dizzy cap and rotor arm so i think the electrical side of thinks should be OK.

Any ideas welcomed,

Tony.

The 1.4s are usually good for around 40mpg. Less than that and something's likely wrong.

I got 37 mpg with combined driving over 270 miles and it does over 300 miles on a tank (not sure if CJ tank is same as XS)

Check the fuel lines under the car and inside the 'bay around the pump and filter

Yep, my old 1.4 gave me about 40 - 42mpg. The CJ may give slightly less as its a bit heavier.

I get about 30. Don't think anythings wrong with the car, just my heavy foot.

I got 15mpg over christmas, but a change of fuel side parts and I was back up to ~35mpg - which is about normal for it.

After sorting the new head out last week I actually seem to be doing better on fuel even with another 20bhp :)

Lambda sensor and the throttle position sensor are both killers for the fuel consumption on the SPI if knackered/incorrectly adjusted.

I would check out the fuel pump (access to it under the rear seat) might also be worth having it rolling roaded and see what its set up like.

Do you know where it was MOT'd last?A quick phone call will see what the emmissions were like at the time.
