Piston Rings

Recommended Posts

I have just been looking at replacing my pston rings and getting the glaze broken on my liners but I have a couple of questions.

I assume that you just buy a new set of standard liners from a main stealers but If I get the glaze broken on the liners will the standard rings be too short (i.e. end gaps too big).

Also I know the liners come in 3 size tolerance groups (A, B & C) but are the rings the same?

Finally where is a good place to pick up ring sets for the TUs if not the main dealer?

Thanks guys,

Proceed with care! Replacement pattern liners are a bit of a minefield and have caused me serious issues. They seem to be made at the wrong end of factory tolerance (bore large and height short). Peugeot only supply complete piston and liner sets, mega bucks.

My preferred method is to buy a low mileage TU engine of the required capacity and transfer the parts. It's easier.

Wasn't this a brand new block or is it for a diff engine? :)

I have some new matched piston/liner sets from AE. I'm not sure who made the original ones for peugeot, however these look pretty ok to me and were cheaper then from peugeot. It is of course possible that they were the OE suppliers for pug, I don't know..

Hopefully AE didn't make the ones that you had problems with Sandy :)

Just to clarify I am going to re-use my original liners - just get the glaze broken. I was after info on suitable replacement ring sets and how to make sure that they will be compatible with my liners/pistons.

Are the rings one size fits all then?
