1989 1.6 Gti Fuseboard... (Explanation)

Recommended Posts

sambaileyw

Afternoon,

probably a strange question, basically in the process of cleaning up the wiring etc on my gti, and wondered if anyone had a decent drawing/schematic/labelled photo of the gti fuseboard could do with an explanation of what pins are where or even just what plugs are where?

Thanks for any info

Cheers Sam

Not sure if it helps but when I chopped down and modified the loom on my 89' gti the plugs which attach to the fuse board only fit in one position and there should be little coloured marks next to each socket to show which colour of plug fits there. Steve

Get yourself the Haynes workshop manual, then using the diagram of the fuse boards in the electrical chapter with letters next to each plug connection.

Reference all these to the wiring diagrams in the last chapter. The wiring diagrams have the relevant letters against each wiring connector shown in the fuse board, this then shows you which wires go where.

Does it though? I've been using the haynes and it obviously has all the info you need, but the fuseboard isn't marked (other than with coloured dots as stated by previous..) or atleast I can't find any markings :(

No it has a picture of the fuse board with letters assigned to each connector.

Then using these letters you can reference the letters in the wiring diagram, matching up the numbered wires and the connector. Each connector is keyed so that only a few swap over in to the wrong place.

The letters in the above diagram relate to the letters used in haynes, found very easily via a google search. This image was invaluable when i did my alarm install, i have since printed it and attached it to my haynes manual.

Ah right, Ok thanks guys :) I find reading the haynes difficult but then I might just be dim  to google search, what do you have to do because I only use the internal search function using the +item method

Just type the following into google;

site:forum.205gtidrivers.com fuse box diagram

or whatever else you want to search for - "fuse box diagram" is just an example. I personally never use the forum search anymore; think a lot of members are the same.

What about the double letters on the picture diagram (e.g. AA, BA, MR etc)?

How do they relate to this?

As far as I understand the items you've got listed thier are referenced in the haynes diagrams, and is the key to the instrument cluster, so on cirucit diagram 1 thier is item 64 which is the instrument cluster, and it is labelled as a,b,c,d etc.. and then there are wire numbers coming of these so you can trace where they go.. that info there is just stating what that item is on the instrument cluster..
