Hello

I have recently purchased a 205 Gti with a MI-16 conversion and after a recent track day I would like to have the suspension set-up to reduce the roll on the front axle. The car is not road registered so I am interested in a purely track set-up. I am not 100% sure of what the car is running at present but I would like to add negative camber on the front, set the toe and the ride heights

Wheel/tyres

  • 195/50/15 Toyo R1R
  • C5 alloy wheels

Front Suspension

  • Bilstein damper
  • Spring ?
  • Standard lower arm
  • Standard bushes
  • Strut brace
  • Ride height 310mm hub centre to wheel arch
  • ARB?
  • Toe?

Rear Suspension

  • 309 rear axle?
  • ARB?
  • Wheel spacers
  • Spax damper
  • Ride height 300mm hub centre to wheel arch

I would not worry about roll, I would however get rid of the wheel spacers and 309 beam, and you'll get a far better turning car.

find out exactly what you have on the front, bin the spax and get bilstein on there to suit whatever torsion bar you choose to get.

The fastest 205 in Australia runs Spax all round. I run them on the rear. Why your dislike?

You can't make the rear too stiff. Fit the biggest torsion bars and ARB you can. You need at least 350lb springs on the front. Castor creates camber. Get as much castor as you can. Front toe should be +4mm for a straight circuit and up to +6 for a tight circuit. Measure rake on the sill. You need approx. 20mm difference (higher at rear). C5 wheels are good entry level but ideally you need at least 7".

Ok thanks, do you know any good companies to set the geometry?

For the spec I can't see any adjustable mounts or anything? The only adjustment you have is in the track rods. A £30 alignment is the only geometry you can play with!

Hi, I think I will at least buy some adjustable top mounts and maybe some coil overs.

And

309 beam and spacers I guess that's not under standard arches?

And you say standard bottom front arms but is that 205 or 309? (Webbed arms 205 or none webbed 309).

Hi, starting to think that it's not a 309 rear axle, how do you tell the difference?

It has 205 gti front arms.

its wider, and with spacers the wheels will be outside the bodywork.
