[car_upgrade] Project Throttle Bodies

Recommended Posts

Around a year ago my 205 mi looked like this.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v512/ste...ies/steige1.jpg

I had done a number of trackdays in and and enjoyed every one of them. At this point I decided to change the engine to a rebuilt mi using the throttle bodies i had bought off ebay six months before that. When we removed the old engine we found a multitude of sins. These were rusty inner wings, outer wings and front panel, holes in the bulkhead from the original conversion and a wiring loom which was described as being put together by a plumber. (No offence to plumbers on here!) Here's what it looked like

After removing what seemed like a mountain of metal from the front of the car. I thought it was never going back together and was destined for the scrappy. However, Jeram (Builder of the Goodwood V6) worked some magic with the welder and the spray gun and pieced it back together. The result being

I was delighted with the result and set about fitting the new engine and everything else back into the car. The engine was bought from Jeram who had recently completely rebuilt it to the highest order. The spec is:

Fully Lightened and balanced standard bottom end by Agra

Autosprint stage 3 big valve head

Autosprint 270 Deg Fast road cams

Arp rod bolts

Peugeot sport baffled sump

Uprated oil pump

Plus loads of other components were replaced at the same time but i can't exactly remember.

Onto that i'm fitting

Maniflow 4-2-1 manifold

Group n centre section with magnex BB

45mm jenvey throttle bodies

90mm trumpets

FSE Fuel regulator

gti-6 box

330cc injectors

Braided fuel hoses

Samco's

Efi technologies Euro 1 ecu and loom

Here's the pics of the engine

While the car was off the road i decided to clean and paint the rest of the front end and set about the suspension, brakes and rack. These were caked in rust and took ages to tidy up and paint. The end result looks ok i think. Its been done with hammerite which i hope will last a while. At least it should keep some of the rust at bay. At the same time I've replaced the brake pipes, drop links, track rod ends and front wheel bearings and fitted group n top mounts as well.

Over the last few weeks i have been fitting the rest of the parts into the bay. These are the most recent pics i have. The red battery tray is now replaced with a cut down version as the battery is in the boot. I have a catch tank fitted in its place.

The to do list is getting shorter with the main task going to be getting the engine wired and started. This is going to require me borrowing a serial cable to connect to a laptop. I enquired with EFI and they want £475!!!! to buy one of these cables. Thankfully there is somebody close by who is willing to lend me one. I couldn't believe it when they said that price for what i think is basically a nine pin printer cable.

I'll try and keep this topic updated with my progress. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Without looking @ the pic., they must have built in the dongle to try and control who has access to the S/W.

Stevie,

Looks good - Got the bonnet to shut yet?

Thats still steep for a dongle! It does have a CAN thingy, but that still sounds steep..

Just shut and no more. I've lowered the engine by spacing out the two top mounts. Sourced some new wheels too. Fitting them today. I'll post a pic!

Ok just rescued this topic from page 5. A few updates to add.

catch tank fitted by the simple method with just the filler breather connected.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v512/ste...es/DSC_1008.jpg

Slam panel and grill fitted with pts stripes again sourced from my friend ebay.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v512/ste...es/DSC_1010.jpg

I painted the front wings, arches and bumper myself and fitted them back on along with the new wheels that i sourced second hand from fleabay. They are 16" but have 40mm profile tyres so the rolling radius is just about the same as the old 15's. They are team dynamics pro race 1.2's with toyo proxes.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v512/ste...es/DSC_1003.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v512/ste...es/DSC_1002.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v512/ste...es/DSC_1004.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v512/ste...es/DSC_1005.jpg

Another couple of pics

Top engine mount

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v512/ste...es/DSC_1007.jpg

Fuel pressure regulator and gauge

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v512/ste...es/DSC_1009.jpg

The engine still needs to be wired. I'm having real issues with the EFI ecu. When i eventually got comms after borrowing a Can link and adaptor the ecu is password protected and i cannot get into the map at all. I don't have any contact with the previous owner so again i'm stuck. The plan now is to flog the efi and go with an omex to save hassle. So if anyone fancies a euro 1 ecu and mi loom let me know.

Thanks i spent this afternoon t-cutting and polishing it after a year of neglect being covered in crud.

Going for the more original look. Aftermarket mirrors and grill replaced and front spoiler had to be replaced after an off at knockhill

One more pic of the completed engine bay minus the loom.

sweet!

looks much better with current front body setup and the wheels are ace. Suit the car really well which most wheels don't on a 205 imo.

I've got an incentive  sp to get mine finished. I'm going to be a dad in 12 weeks so i can't imagine i'll get much time then. Can't wait to here it run. I've been wondering how these throttle bodies are going to sound for the last 18 months. Soon hopefully!!

Whats your project?

pretty much the same as yours to begin with. i took it off the road with the intentions of rebuilding the engine and getting the passenger side resprayed after it got broken into/vandalized. a self build home, 2 kids and an 'over enthusiastic' strip down means its pretty much a bare shell on axlestands after approximately 4 years!. i've welded in a cage , stripped, welded and made good the floorpan , waxoyled it and looks the dogs bollox underneath without a trace of rust . collected parts, new and second hand . resprayed and rebuilt the engine bay . All the dirty ,tiresome unrewarding work is now complete and its a case of assembling the hundreds of parts i've collected and turning it into a decent 205.

in the next few weeks i should have my driveway completed (block paving/tarring) which means the house is eventually finished. this should free up some time to push the 205 on a bit.

good luck with getting in fired up in time . when you have babies, one day kind of just turns into the next all of a sudden , before you know it years have passed!!

Sounds like a few big tasks you've taken on there. It does get more rewarding when you start to re-assemble things though. I was getting so pissed off scraping the rust from all the parts and painting them. The end result looks ok but i'm not sure how long the hammerite will last tbh.

Really nice looking project there, all credit to you for getting it done, especially considering the state of the shell at the start! :)

One question-Why the need for the lowered engine, surely thats going to put a bit of strain on CV joints?
