[car_overhaul] Project 'shed' Has Started...

Recommended Posts

ashley peddle

Well I finally had my new 205 delivered. its a fairly clean shell but rear beam and engine is fooked, there is no interior (and carpet is gross) and the running gear is rather suspect... its in need of more work that what i first thought :( im still hoping to have it done by eurofest in mid September (Combe action day) For the money it was still a bargain considering it has 7 months MOT :D

already sourced is the interior and (im hoping) ant has a 1.6 rear beam... gona keep it as a 1.6 for now purely because i wont have to upgrade the brakes/suspension too much and leaves less new parts that i need to buy. May upgrade to something bigger over the winter though ;)

front fog lights

white bonnet

rear valence

1.6 engine (decent ready to go)

1.6 drive shafts

hose set

bbm GpN mounts

drivers side rear arch

clear repeaters/indicators

^^^ if anyone has any of the above please drop me a pm :)

how it was delivered:

More pics of engine removal HERE (clicky)

So there we go... will need its fair share of long nights, but im sure it should be up and running in the not too distant future :) more progress/pics to follow...

also took the dyson to the wrkshop to see how the carpet would come up - was quite pleased (the dark patches are just damp - not dirt!)

You could probably get that carpet looking nearly brand new if you're willing to invest a couple of hours in it. Need to get it out of the car, give it a good beating, then a good soaking, and a bit of a scrub with a hard brittled brush and some Vanish stain remover/washing up liquid/anything else you have lying around, then hose it off and leave it to dry.

That Constella quickshift adaptor looks overly complicated for something that needs a simple solution! And yet not necessarily well done. They don't come with the Jubilee clip as standard though, do they?

yeah i know - but if im totaly honnest i cant be arsed :) i am gona have another go at it once its dry with a wire brush and some more cleaning products, but will do it in place (the barn is relativly dry so it shouldnt be a problem)

Well thanks to a local guy with a 'dumped' 205 i have now dropped a new 1.6 lump in to 'le shed'. Its all ready to plumb up but is a totally unknown engine so all fingers crossed!

It turns over freely, but the spark plug holes were filled up with water (but the plugs were still in) and the oil was brown so only a 50/50 chance it will run ok.

place your bets...

Think I may have bunged a 'box and starter on it before fitting and done a compression comparison before ? Have yourself a weekend in sunny Cornwall and raid my garage for most of your parts before going home - just stripped a 1.6

lol cheers steve - if i was closer i think id take you up on that!

as for doing a comperssion test i dont actually know how :) funny that i can dress an engine, fit a box properly, fit the engine and plumb it all up but dont know how to do a simple comperssion test

if it DOES work it will need an almost instant oil change/service/italian tune up, but i can but hope! for £40 i got an engine, box, alternator, starter motor, hose set, brand new gearbox mount (my old one was nackered) decent battery tray (my one was rusty), a set of good wishbones, a set of good driveshafts and a mint set of rubber genuine 205 mats so i can hardly complain if the engine is nackered.
