[car_overhaul] 1989 1.9 Diary

Recommended Posts

Guest emlyn11

Hello there, I am a new member.

I have recently bought my first 205, it's a 1989 1.9 model phase 1.5.

It's cherry red but a bit orange as per usual, and in pretty good nick apart from the ongoing saga of trying to get

the engine to idle/run correctly, the idle is tempremental and it hesitates quite a lot at low rpm, it also seems to

alter in performance when it feels like it :)

Anyway here is a pic just after I picked it up.......

Notice the mint driving lamps? They were bramd new, but after a journey to Ireland they have BOTH been smashed/cracked whilst driving :)

Since buying the car I have fitted phase 2 rear lights, changed a broken fuel pump/afm etc and sprayed the wheels white as the paint was

flaking off before. I also sprayed the rear boot trim black as it was faided and the badges white, this is how it looks now bar the smashed driving lamps................

I plan to do a few track days so will be mainly doing suspension work, I have some poly roll bar bushes and I will shortly be buying some eibach springs for the

front, it allready has koni adjustable fronts on it so I will just buy the rears I think and then set about changing all the bushes and engine/gearbox mounts etc.

Before hand I had a fiesta Si which I put a 2.0 16v engine into, fitted Escort cosworth brakes to it and did alot of suspension work, here is a pic

for those who are interested........................

Comments welcome

Cheers

Looks nice and clean in the pics :o

I take it you had a Zetec conversion in the Fezza?

Cheers

Yeah I put a 2.0 zetec engine into it, they have 1.6 zetec engines as standard so the conversion is pretty straight forward :o

Will you be doing any engine work on it?

Red with white wheels - very nice!

It still surprises me how high the GTI looks on standard ride height though.

Platty- Not imediatly but I'm tempted to put a gti-6 lump in it, either that or get James's fancy head off him  and get some carbs

for the current engine? Not sure really.

Paintguy- Yeah I know what you mean, I have just literally finished lowering the back by one spline now. I did it to give me more motivation

to buy the eibach fronts  It's dropped it a bit more than I thought it would so I hope the eibachs do a similar amount.
