Recommended Posts

Quick question for you knowledgeable people. Are there any compatible 4wd/awd gearboxes that fit the ew engine?

Thanks in advance

I'd never heard of he T4 till you mentioned it but can't seem to find too much info on the drivetrain, some say its from a van of some sort.

I've found that the diesel variant (dw) of the ew engine is fitted to the TD4 Freelander which has 4x4 but not sure if the box itself is compatible? Anybody have any experience with these gearboxes or know if you could get it to fit?

Freelander 2 (2006-2011) used a DW12 Mounted transversely, I'm unsure if the DW12 shared the same bellhousing pattern as the DW10 which is the same as an XU and XUD, its a Getrag box with a third gen haldex rear end, changing to a 4th gen after 2009.

however I think the EW is different.

The Saxo T4 was a Citroen Sport product purely for rallying, using a BE3 box mated to a TU5 engine with an output to a rear diff.

no, TU sits pretty much bolt upright, starter on the back, EW sits at 15 degrees back with starter on the front...

Hmm that's that idea down the pan then. Who was it that made the be3 box with the rear output?

TU has different pattern.

EW and XU bolt patterns are similiar BUT: EW stands 15 degrees upper position. An old BE3 won´t fit because EW block is littlebit wider than XU. Though, EW can be modified to accept BE3, you have to grind off the timing hole part from the block behind. And I don´t know does distribution box still fit.

207 Super 2000 has an EW10 engine and 4WD drive with 6 speed sequential box. You can order those from Peugeot Sport. I guess we have to win in a lottery first :D

Colin Satchell fitted a Mitsubishi gearbox to an XU engine with a custom bellhousing plate for someone on this site making a 405 touring car replica. You could probably look into similar for the EW

Thanks for the advice. I think the options are probably going to be a little costly for what is essentially going to be a home built sprint car.

You'll be up against some pretty might competition with that kind of gear on a pug, keep it simple and the next class down.
