Converting Dfw To D6c

Hi,

 

 

I want to rebuilt a DFW engine and convert it to D6C. If I change the pistons, inlet cam pulley and ECU with D6C ones, it will work? Or there are others things that I must change?

Just change the pistons, that's all. The DFW ECU and pulley works really well with the extra CR.

But the knock sensor? Higher CR means more chances to start pinking, no?

No, I run the DFW ECU at 10.8:1 without any problems. It makes fantastic torque and power.

the knock sensor just means you have a higher level of control over the ignition.

 

remind me what the DFW is? late spec cat equipped 1.9 16v?

The DFW is cat equipped alloy 16v engine(148BHP)

no, decked block and liners. I've built a few engines like this.

if the knock sensor is disconnected the ECU retards the ignition advance severly.

asking because im using a early engine with no knock sensor on a loom that has the knock sensor plug, can the knock sensor be fitted onto the early block ok??>

yes, but theres no point unless you have a later Knock sensing ecu, the loom may well have a plug for the knock sensor if its close enough to the transition period to the later engines/ecu's

What number is the ECU? Do you know the age of the car it came from? And where the car came from? There is no power difference so long as you use 89 ron.

3 row ecus (55 pin) have knock sensors

2 row ecus don't

just take the entire knock-sensor off the block (do not disconnect it),

and bolt it to a simple fabricated metal/rubber "holder" that can be fitted

to the bulkhead or similar place around the engine.

 

Then the engine ECU will be cheated into thinking that there is no

pinking going on in the engine.

 

A cheap trick - works to some extent. If overdone, you might damage

the engine, of course.
