What Speedo Cable For Gti6 Conversion

Recommended Posts

Peetypug

i thought i'd start connecting everything up yesterday

but noticed that no matter how i do it the speedo cable touches the exhaust manifold

is there a longer one that will fit? i was thinking maybe a 405 one

is it worth buying new or getting one from the scrappy?

you need a 405 one mate, even with it, it's still quite tight around the back ok the old manifold though.

you need the one thats about 1070mm not 900mm

new one from gsf is about £25 iirc but have a look on ebay or a local motor factors as you might come up trumps on a cheaper one. A second hand one would do but you might get bouncy needle at low revs, but chuck some spray grease down it before you fit it and it 'll be ok for a bit i would imagine

Even the ones from Pug now are the generic type to fit all models.

Pete, might be worth putting some of the heat reflective sleeve over the speedo cable before you fit it <_<

I would fit a genuine cable too. The last one that I had from GSF didn't last that long before the ol' 'Wobbly' needle syndrome.

Pug 6123.96 1200mm long £26.06 + VAT £30.62

GSF N76110 £23.50 + VAT £27.61 or £24.85 if you wangle the 10% discount

Be advised though that the part numbers that I quoted above are for a 405 speedo cable, which is longer than the standard 205 one. This is just for people that want extra clearance around a GTi6 exhaust manifold.

i'm using std speedo cable, just tied back away from the manifold, been fine for 18nmths of hard abuse

throttle cable is just a pug one from motor factors, cut to the size i wanted :)
