Will A 1.9 Starter Fit A 2.0?

Ive got a sticky starter so im gonna replace it. Can someone tell me if i buy one from a 1.9 will it fit a 2.0? Would one from a 205 1.9 gti fit? Im new to the mi16 engine so dont know an awful lot about it :blink:

They should all be interchangeable - I've just fitted a 306 GTI6 one on my 205 GTI :).

 

It's just that the original 205 GTI ones are quite a big bigger, so it might not work the other way round :unsure:.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! :lol: The solenoids on the other side and the 1.9 one will hit the inlet manifold and you won't be able to bolt it up correctly. I had a massive ball ache trying to fit a new starter to my old 2.0.

What problem did you encounter fitting the starter? Was it in the buying of one or fitting of it?

 

Ive just been quoted £132 for a new starter!!! Jesus...

Sounds about right, mine was over £100. Getting it was an issue because the motorfactors kept getting ones in with the solenoid on the wrong side. You may have to remove the inlet manifold to fit it as well to access the top bolt.

i had a feeling this wouldn't be straight forward lol.

 

ill maybe see about getting mine reconditioned - might be a cheaper option
