1.9 Oil Pressure Sender

Recommended Posts

Guest Red_SLR

My pressure sender is on the blink. The warning sender is ok.

Having had a quick look at the engine I guess its behind the inlet manifold. Is it possible to get at it without taking the manifold off?

Thanks!

You can get to it by removing the alternator.

One of the senders under there the tab broke off, so I soldered a wire on it to it. Maybe thats come off. Can't remeber which one.

The sender doesn't agree with some oils, I'm using Tesco's at the moment and the neddle doesn't move at all but if I switch to Total or a few others the guage works fine. Check that this isn't the problem before you fiddle with it.

removing it is hard with the 205gti manifold

the sender is on the block, behind the manifold, round thingy, have a big head, 1 wire connected (it looks like he has a place for 2wires)

they usualy dies (well, atleast here.)

you can get them removed without removing the manifold only if you've got a 90degree tool to remove it.

here it is to the right of the alt.

If its more of a track car i'd recommend thinkauto's early warning system. So that involves putting in a t-piece, then all the existing OE sender for the gauge, and a vatiable sender feeding a warning light on the dash that you add

In your pic have you got 2 oil pressure switches?, how do the switches get their power to actually send the reading to the gauge?. If i wanted to set up another guage, is it a simple case of putting in a t-piece, connecting two switches to it (one for the car dash and the other for another seperate gauge), then connecting the one wire for the dash gauge (standerd switch) and then for a two pin adjustable reading switch (warning light comes on before standerd warning light) is it just a case of connecting an earth wire and then the gauge sender wire?. Allso what is the other large round switch just to the right of oil pressure switch?.

Sorry 4 all the q's

matty_gti. the big round switch next to te oil pressure switch is the oil pressure gauge. i think that is what red_slr is on about.

the gauge has a 16mm/17mm nut on the underside of the big mushroom top. i changed mine on the weekend and its quite hard to get to even with a carb manifold(had to buy a stubby spanner to get on it), so i feel for you having to do it with a standard manifold.

So the big round err 'thing' shows the pressure reading on the dash?. sorry to sound stupid ;) , and the small oil perssure switch just controls the warning light on the dash???

well im allrite with fitting a new switch/gauge because my engine is out at the mo and im half-way threw my complete 1.6 > 1.9 conversion engine rebuild, :D

You can get to the sender without taking anything off, work from underneath & you can reach in OK.

I did it this way on an Mi in summer & there is even less space on that than on an 8v. Awkward but definately possible.
