Stripped The Thread! Rear Beam Build!

Recommended Posts

camgti

So its come time to check the rear beam bearings and trailingarm shafts and in the process of trying to get the ARB seal things out ive stripped the thread. I took as much care as i could had the right bolt to pull it off and it still stripped. Ive been told to re tap the thread and try again but i dont think its going to work. Shall i start using heat and prize it out with some chisels and screw drivers? Or Re tap and keep going. The beam has not an ounce of movement but the bloke putting the Engine in wont put it in until ive had it apart to check its all spot on!

Your thoughts please

You could have a go at the other side of the ARB? It can slide out either way.

have you removed the torsion bars yet?

if you remove the torsion bar you may be able to "persuade" :) the end plates off by hitting the inside of the trailing arms.

You could always "insert" a brass drift into the hole where you would wind in the bolt to extract the end plate and beat seven bales out of it,always works for me,If you find that brass is too soft then mild steel is ok too considering the fact the roll bar is hard as hell !

So i re tapped the hole and got them out. Pulled the shafts out and they are brand new! Done no milage at all. So ill clean everything up and put it all back together. Proberbly put new bearings in for good measure.
